Myers is a diamond in the roughWhat the...why would any team trade for our guys when they could just wait for them to be cut? Just to jump in front of some other team, so they can get dibs on a player so compelling they’re about to get cut? An equivalent player could probably found in the cloud of released players on cutdown day. This doesn’t seem realistic.
I don’t see BB keeping guys just so they can get traded, either.
To be traded a guy would have to be extra depth at a position which is otherwise solid. So a Thuney trade is unrealistic because who’s the LG? Karmas? I don’t think so. Similarly I’m not sure who takes over for Harmon if he gets traded, Brooks? Maybe but Harmon is legend at OPPQBR on deep balls iirc. And again, Harmon would just get cut.
Only scenarios where I could see this happening are a Hoyer trade where they keep all three QB but Stidham shows enough for Hoyer to get cut in-season, or an Allen trade prior to Allen being outright cut.
Wait a sec. You know who might have trade value? Jakobi Myers.
Hoyer to the Eagles. Sudfeld broke a bone. Kessler in concussion protocol. Depends on how good Stidham looks the rest of preseason.
I could see us trading for a tight end. Or maybe Eric Saubert for a 7th is all we need. Keep an eye on Wynn and Skipper, if that looks shaky we could trade for a veteran tackle.
A lot depends on injuries around the league, ours and other teams.
I think Jonathan Jones in a trade makes the most sense. The Pats are loaded with young talent at cornerback and Jones will probably set the new value at slot corner next year, surpassing Justin Coleman in the ballpark of $10 million, so there’s no chance that he’ll be back. A lot of teams would give up a kings ransom for him, (compared to what teams would give up for some of the other trade options) and a if a solid TE, tackle, or other position of need could be a part of the deal, even better.
By all accounts, Dawson has had an impressive camp and would likely step in as slot corner, while both Crossen and Williams show upside. I don’t think Bill wants to lose any of these guys.
Trade Dorsett for a 4th or 5th rounder if Meyers keeps playing like this. That spot needs youth.Dawson has had an impressive few days, not an impressive camp..

Burkhead is gone. Michel is our power back and the pass catching backs will be split between Damien Harris and James White.
I wouldn't touch Thuney even if he leaves Pats after the season as a FA. Brady is obviously getting older and one injury would ruin everything for him and for the team. Thuney is the fundamental part of our OL which responsibility is to protect our QB. Why should we trade the player who is so important.
On the other hand I am glad we have so many gems in the roster.
I think Wise, Harmon, Dawson, Roberts and one of the punters could potentially be traded and bring something back though it would not be substantial.
Guess so, need the depth at RB but I meant Michel is the best option for running on the goal line or in short yardage situations. You don’t see that very often with James white because his strength is cutting the defense in the passing game. The Patriots typically keep 5RBs plus a FB. Why would you think that would change now? Not to mention that, by all accounts, the Pats fully plan on using Michel, Harris and White in the passing game based on the fact that Michel has 12 receptions during camp already..

Harris will also get some handoffs. Not just Michel. It would best serve this offense if Michel was more involved in the pass game, to not tip off the defense when he’s in there.

Thing is, only 53 guys won’t get cut.I don't know wtf you are smoking, but none of those guys are "just going to get cut. Seriously. You're acting like the guys I mentioned have zero trade value and are just scrap heap rejects. In fact, it's completely asinine for you to claim that there will be players the equivalent of anyone but the WRs I mentioned in the cloud of players released on cut-down day.
As for taking over at LG, they could, most certainly put Karras there. They could also put Froholdt there. You know. The Guard they just drafted.
You're claims that players like Harmon "would just get cut" are absolutely stupid. No. They wouldn't just get cut.
This was most definitely one of the areas that they wanted to hit on as a wrinkle in the SB, as they threw to him two or three times fairly early in the game. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out as Brady didn’t get enough time.It would best serve this offense if Michel was more involved in the pass game, to not tip off the defense when he’s in there.

If you trade one of those 53 you are weakening that position, because he was better than the guys that were cut.
So you need to get really significant improvement at some other position, AND not get much worse at the position you traded.
But not getting much worse at the position you traded means you must be keeping a player you would’ve cut AND that player isn’t much of a downgrade from the player you traded.
So a prospective trade partner can just wait and get the guy you’ll cut when you can’t make a trade.
There’s a reason trades are not more common...

No, the trick is finding a trading partner to deal with.
One that doesn’t expect to pick up value from the waiver wire without giving anything in return. Only reason another team might trade instead of waiting for the cuts is to ensure they get the guy they want. But there are going to be lots of players on the waiver wire so there isn’t a huge compelling benefit to trade instead of wait. Unless we plan to trade someone who is a roster lock, and that is just dumb because it would weaken the team more than it helps. And don’t argue that we could do that because there is a replacement in waiting ready to step in, if we have that and there’s no deal that replacement is likely on the waiver wire, so what’s the real benefit to the trading partner?
Remember it takes two teams to make a trade.
