Considering I was worried about WR coming into camp, there is a chance we have a good group here

With the weakness at TE, 5 WR's is certainly possible. I see three locks as Edelman, Harry, and Harris.

I suspect that Belichick sees Edelman as the primary punt returner, as always. This give Berrios little chance.

Because of Edelman's injury, we could start with 5 WR's, with 2 of Dorsett, Berrios and Myers. As I said above, Belichick would likely make Berrios the man outside looking in; a backup PR is not worth a roster spot. As an aside, Harry can be a backup PR.

I actually agree with this 100%.

It is a straight battle between Harris and Berrios, and as things stand, Harris has more connection with Brady.

These things can change in the next three weeks though, or if they think Berrios will have a higher ceiling so they can keep him knocking around. As mentioned elsewhere, Edelman wasn't Edelman for a good few years after he joined.

I'd love to have him work out, but he seems to me to have poor technique when catching.

Feels on returns like a fumble waiting to happen.

Maybe it is because of my love of the like of Wes, Jules, and Danny, but I really want him to make it. I also like the fact he can punt return as it means Jules doesn't need to do it.

Yes I do struggle to see his path to the team unless there is a surprise trade for Dorsett, but have my fingers crossed for him.

We normally carry 6 plus Slater. Edleman, Harry, Dorsett,Meyers, Gordon and Thomas on their hopeful returns. Harris is in the running also.

Dorsett is our only speed stretch receiver till Gordon returns while Berrios is a slot. I think Berrios makes the team while waiting on Gordon or Thomas or if Thomas does not work out for us. Berrios is in competition with Edleman and Meyers. Short to intermediate route receivers. Thomas and Harry intermediate receivers. Gordon and Dorsett Intermediate to long receivers

Although they are all receivers you have to arm your offense on all zones of the field

STILL don't see any "suddenness" from Berrios. Nothing that makes me want to keep him over guys like Harris and Inman. Next time you get to a practice or see a PS game, look at the difference between Gunner and Braxton in terms of "suddenness". Though Berrios is clearly the smoother route runner with a year's experience and much improved over last season. He isn't special enough, imo to warrant that 5th WR spot against the competition that's out there now, let alone when DThomas and/if JGordon return.

To me, at this point Edelman, Dorsett, Harry and Meyers look like the top 4, while Inman, Harris, and Berrios battle it out for the last spot. Gunner is definitely a guy I'd want to keep on the PS. He could actually develop into a decent return guy/slot receiver with another year. Berrios is what he's going to be. A receiver of limited physical ability who can fill in as a WR IF you have a couple of injuries.

Again, come this Saturday compare the quickness between Gunner and Braxton and see who you'd want to develop long term. JMHO

I think Meyers is the one wrapping up that back up slot receiver role. IIRC, wasn't most of Meyers production came out of the slot position?

Also remember Edelman isn't always used in the slot in recent years. Given the current TE situation, we may see more 4 wide formations on passing downs than we usually see.

What??? Look, he's a long shot to make the team. But, I thought his fundamentals and mechanics were fine the other night. He showed pretty good instincts and protected the ball well after catching both punts and passes. Like others above have said, I didn't see great burst or acceleration after the catch, but I thought he showed some of that on his returns.

We could definitely use a returner so that Jules (or Patrick Chung) don’t risk injury, but Berrios risks landing on the shadow roster as he hasn’t done much to distinguish himself so far.

Don't want to crap on Berrios in his own thread, but he catches the ball with his body.

My daughter and I looked at each other on one play because we both saw it.

Just a reminder: WR4 and WR5 are as much about STs as they are about receiving.

On the one long catch over the middle vs. DET, the ball got to his body. But I don't see that consistently happening on his game tapes from UM or practice catches.

I agree, in training camp practices Gunner’s quickness is noticeably better than Braxton and Harris. Due to his high potential, Patriots might consider keeping on the 53.
