Eh, it’s a little rambling, but that comes from a guy speaking from the heart about something that’s complicated and personal to him.

It didn't help that he couldn't come out and say "I respect Bill but after what I saw him pull in New England I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. Even if I smoked all the crack in Jersey I still wouldn't put the future of my family in that man's hands."

I know its 20-20 hindsight, but listening to it today, it all made perfect sense to me.

It always made perfect sense to me. A handshake deal in place with former owner. New owner/ no handshake. Pretty simple unless your a Jets fan or the NY media

Can't keep the damn thing down - - - 1st preseason game tomorrow night!

Any legitimate coach worth his salt wouldn't want anything to do with the jest situation at the time

-Get defaulted the job because the current HC/GM just wants to be GM. So basically he is dumping the coaching responsibilities on you but keeping the power.

-Team was being sold which most likely means unless you make the playoffs you are a lame duck because you weren't new ownership's hire and they're likely to clean house. Which they did Parcells, Groh and the coaching staff were all gone the next year and it's not like it was a 4-12 season, they finished 9-7

-Have an owner that you've worked for before letting you know he wants you and you'll be given full control

W-O-O-D-R-O-W J-O-H-N-S-O-N

That is all.

Bill had more to say there to the press than he has in the last 19 years. And I think I heard him mention his “feelings”. And how many days before he signed with the Pats?

Am I wrong, but did Steve Tannenbaum, in a future presser categorize Bill's comments as being that of a "troubled man".

I had never seen the entire presser before. I was surprised to see how well Bill tried to express his concerns. The fact is that the situation radically changed between the time he originally agreed to take over for Parcells, and the time when Parcells moved to the FO.

I think the key factor was his experience with Cleveland. He went into that job knowing he was gong to have do a complete rebuild of the team and franchise. Just when he thought he was turning the corner, the owner pulls the rug out from under him, his team, AND his city. Not knowing who is new owner would be. Not knowing if he could get along with him, had the same vision of where the team was going. OR if the new owner had a different coach in mind coming in. AND I'm sure the continued, larger than life presence of Parcells looming over him was another negative that factored in his decision.

The fact was that no could assure him that HIS vision of what it would take to take the Jets to the next level would happen. Too many "what ifs" for him to stay, ESPECIALLY given his past experience.

I know its 20-20 hindsight, but listening to it today, it all made perfect sense to me. It didn't seem rambling or "troubled". It seemed like a guy who REALLY wanted to explain to the press why he was doing what he was doing. The only shock I had was Bill offering detailed one on one's to anyone who wanted one, and then leaving his personal phone # for anyone who wanted it so set up a meeting..
Jete executive Steve Gutman, the guy taking the podium right after BB, proceeded to call him "a man in obvious turmoil." I watched that press conference live. The best part came right after BB when Gutman had to field questions from the assembled media. Too bad that wasn't included with this clip, the whole thing lasted about half an hour.

Comments are gold at that video.

This is so great

- He drafted #12 just 3 months later. Can you believe it.

- I didn't find any of this rambling. He opened all his true thoughts here. Very logical clear reasons given.

- This has to be the Jets worse nightmare. Like Sox fans watching Buckner or the Aaron Boone homer but 10x worse

.

This is so good to see after. jets fans moaning how that day is like seeing your exGF over and over.

Or the buttfumble on steroids.

Someone ought to post this on JI or other Jet boards to see their reaction.......

Gutman. Yeah, that makes more sense. My apologies to Steve Tannenbaum.

I like the big lie at the end, "I wish the Jets the very best of luck." He's 30-10 against them with New England.

The Holy Grail!!!!!! I've spent two decades searching for this. I may have to take the day off :D

What a perfect way to kick off a new season.

I'm actually surprised his losses are in the double digits. That sort of bums me out.

We have to sweep them this year!
