2018-19 Stanley Cup - Bruins vs Blues

What a game. They just kept scoring and stopping the Blues. The 4th line is a workhorse with a new wrinkle, scoring. The 3rd line has chemistry and can score. The 1st line is a powerhouse, what else needs to be said. Then there is the 2nd line, I don't know what to say about them because they haven't shown up yet. The question is will they?

Go Bruins, one game at a time.
They have been the best line and the minutes played backs that stat up. The 4th line and Rask will be the reason if Boston wins this series and the Cup.

The Bruins lost more with Grzelcyk.

.
I get why Bruins fans would think this...yet the "lost more" narrative didn't seem to be in play one iota last night with Boston surrendering only 2 deflected goals last night without Grzelcyk.
Boston was a mess without Grzelcyk for half a game
St Louis was a bigger mess last night
With 2 off days and a new body, Cassidy fixed the B's issues.
With 2 off days and knowing of the suspension, the Blues' no pulse coach failed his team

I really think the 1st line should take a cue from the way the 4th line plays, they make smart direct plays instead of getting overly cute with the puck. Overall it’s a minor complaint, as they have played really well as a team throughout this season and Stanley Cup final.

No doubt. The 1st line played a lot better last night, but they definitely haven't gotten back to the level they played to get the team there. I'm optimistic at the prospect for the rest of the series as I think that Marchy/Bergy/Pasta are due and the difference between coaches is woefully apparent as Cassidy continues to retool and Berube keeps swinging that same hammer just harder each time expecting a better outcome.

The bruins outplayed them so badly in game 1 they failed to prepare for the one thing the blues can do - hit in game 2. Game 3 they decided to play hockey which includes skating and puck handling....something the blues suck at. Couple that with Chara throwing himself around a bit completely neutralized the blues behind the bruins goal.

Chara is definitely playing like the smart veteran again, using his sheer size and intimidation and hasn't been caught on his heels like he was at times in the playoffs especially when Tarasenko has been out there.

The captains rub off on everyone else.....playing for bergie and Z must be gratifying

Just a few observations:

1. 3 goals were scored when a shot goes off a team's defenseman (2 for the Blues and one for the B's. The one off of Carlo was ridiculous. That shot was going way wide when it hit him. It kind of shows the randomness of scoring in an NHL game.

2. How good is Rask playing? On the aforementioned goal that deflected off of HIS defenseman, he's playing so well, he damned near made the save on it.

3. It was a bit disturbing to see the Blues dominate the first 15 or so minutes of the 3rd period. The 3 penalties didn't help of course, but the Blues were constantly in the B's end.

4. I HATE how the Blues are looking to hurt, not check the B's. But that being said, I think its the only way they can win....or at least THEY think it's the only way they can win.

5. Interesting to see the transformation of this team. When playing against the Maple Leafs, the B's were the slow plodding team trying to chase the speedy skill players of the Leafs. Yet suddenly its the B's who are too fast for the Blues to catch them. How did THAT happen. ;)

6. After the first game, sweep talk was rampant. After the 2nd, it was "how are we going to win this series". After the 3rd it's back to, "we got this". You would think that as Pats fans we would understand the simple concept that every game is DIFFERENT and has little to do with what happened before. The season wasn't over after we got CRUSHED by the Lions, Jags, and Titans. Why? Because the next week is its own separate entity and what happened before has less to do with reality than we think

Like the Pats the Blues have shown tremendous resilience during these playoffs after a loss. I think they are 6-2 after losses. You don't get to the finals of any playoff series without being a VERY resilient team. It was a great win last night. The B's were dominant for most of the game. But 4 goals on 4 shots is NOT going to happen on Monday and the Blues won't be leaving anything on the table.

I'd like to think it will be a cake walk, but I suspect Monday's game will be a one goal game and could go either way. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Regarding number 6 .... the bruins are the better team and it’s almost laughable .... in game 2, the bruins let up just like they let up in the first part of the 3rd period .... all they need to do is keep skating .... because the blues have no answer for that .... keep things moving and the contact gets mitigated

Last night game was far from flawless for the b’s but the blues have no answer for the bruins when they get to work.

Chara is definitely playing like the smart veteran again, using his sheer size and intimidation and hasn't been caught on his heels like he was at times in the playoffs especially when Tarasenko has been out there.
Except when Chara got juked out of his skates in the corner, falling on his ass.....and the puck he failed to secure ended up in the net 1.5 seconds later.
I'm rooting for the big lug but ............

Rask has allowed 7 but I get your point.

Ok, technically Bingington has given up 12 goals because the Blues would not have had to pull the goalie if Bing didnt play so crappy.

4-for-4 on the power play was important last night. The amazing efficiency of the B's power play all through the playoffs means that the Blues have to be a bit more careful on their thug tactics.

What a response by the first line. I think they were pissed of about their performance so far and they answered. 2 more!!!!

The Bruins lost more vis a vis Grzelcyk/Sundqvist, but they are the deeper/better team at every level (except size), so going from a 5 to a 4.8 for them still puts them above a team that went from a 4.0 to a 3.9. Bruins lost more in the trade off, but had far more to begin with.

We are thin on defense. Cannot afford anymore losses. I was listening to Blues announcers postgame last night - they were sounding hopeful that McAvoy might be out. Eff ‘em.

Honestly, it's their only chance.

Anyone with a working cerebellum knows this.

So far, the refs have acted clueless to this like the ol' WWW's when Ivan Koloff rubbed chalk in Bruno Samartino's eyes while the Grand Wizard distracted.
