He is going to be playing for the Patriots, how much happier can he get?Probably more about making him happy.

It’s a better deal than signing Trey Flowers long term. He’s a good player, but that contract he got was just horrendous. Bennet, who Flowers’ playing style has been compared to, is the better version of Trey Flowers - just older.
Some on this board drastically overrate Flowers and think the D line is doomed without him. The trade for Bennett was a brilliant move by BB and he will do the exact same things Flowers did.
And others on the board feel as long as the Pats have BB and Brady, they can overcome any loss. Flowers will be the next casualty on that list.
You all year: "Flowers won't get a top tier contract! He doesn't have big sack numbers!"
You now that he's gotten a top contract: "Horrendous contract and you all overrated him anyway."
I suppose you're consistent, but you're not a very accurate judge.
You are right that I said he wouldn’t get a top contract because of his low sack numbers which I admitted I was wrong long ago. It doesn’t mean it’s a good contract which I don’t think it is.You all year: "Flowers won't get a top tier contract! He doesn't have big sack numbers!"

Miguel shows $3,674,309 of cap space on his 2019 page at BSJ. This includes Collins and Watson, but not Inman (who would have little if any affect on the cap).
If they need cap space, I could see cutting McCourty. Save about 10m. Way too high priced for what he does.
Maybe McCourty needs to miss a few games so that people can appreciate his importance to the defense. There’s a reason why the Patriots have been one of - if not the - best in the league since 2011 when it comes to avoiding deep passes.
Restructuring may be a good option though.
He is in his final year. So extending him would be the way to go but then he probably retires after this year so not sure if we want the dead cap.
We probably just let him play on that 13M cap even though it's too much. Cutting won't happen because we can't replace his contributions regardless if we get 10M or not.

Yea but our defense sucks. Points allowed is a meaningless stat. Here are some numbers
Since 2011 the patriots are #2 in points allowed.
Since 2014 they are #1.
