Patriots getting the band back together, sign Jamie Collins

This is one of those moves whereas if it was any other coach I'd be saying, "What and idiot. Waste of time bringing in that lolly-gagger."

But since its BB and there is a history, I won't call BB an idiot but until proven otherwise, Collins is still a lolly-gagger.

Even as a lolly-gagger, he puts to shame some of the losers that passed through here since he was gone

The last time the Patriots brought in a prodigal son, Brandon Spikes rolled his car on 495.
Well recently we've had Chung and Spikes. I guess what Boldin and Collins do will go a long way determining the long term trend. ;)

So they traded Collins for a third, used that third to acquire quality players, saved a ton of money, went on to appear in three straight Super Bowls, winning two of them, and then acquired Collins back still in his prime at a dirt cheap cost.

LOL at Bill totally gaming the system.

Funny I posted when he left that he hated it here (the area) ... somebody who was tight with him was heard saying it. I guess the area looks a bit better now that he realizes it's a business ... just play hard for your team and the fans. You retire to the area you love. You play where the fit and money are right.
After three years on the shores of Lake Erie, Foxboro may look like paradise.

Smaht move. Collins is a Beast.

This team is going to be better than last season. Crazy. I mean, another serviceable WR and the team is basically stocked. I'm not even concerned about TE because I believe BB is switching gears to a RB oriented offense. The TE play will be good enough

Bound to be roster cut downs that will add more talent. The Vet with a year left to get his ring.
Shane Vareen explains where he sees the Pats offense going. Spoiler alert- he agrees with you. It starts at 4:05.

If this means goodbye Elandon Roberts, then I’m all for it. Heck, I’ll be the happiest person on this board!!!

Why do you hate Elandon Roberts so? He's tied with Ray Lewis with two Super Bowl victories, and to his credit is never listed in a poll as having killed a guy.

From Mike Reiss when Collins was traded

"This seemed to indicate the thinking of the coaching staff that Collins wasn't as good of an option against the run as rookie Elandon Roberts."

That’s funny......at that time Roberts was getting consistently pancaked.....

There was a lot of hoped upside with Roberts at the time of Collins being traded.

He’s just never taken off. Just been fine.

I have this gif of his wheel route mis-coverage vs SeaHags in the SB burned into my psyche.
Your post goes a long way to allaying my concerns about Collins given what he's competing for.
You forgot about the 2 plays where Collins bit against forehead in the 2015 AFC Champ game!

For completeness: That 3rd round pick was packaged with 32 for Brandin Cooks and a 4th rounder. The 4th rounder was subsequently stolen by the Clownmissioner.

Dunno. I would think BB & Mayo at the least had a coachability discussion about a putative return.
And yes, I know Mayo is the ILB coach but as a respected Patriots vet he's in an advantaged position of player relations influence.
I believe they take coaches input. I remember an article recently about Pepper Johnson when he was coaching for the rats or Bills. Pepper Johnson is used to speaking his mind and giving input when coaching under BB but when coaching under Todd Bowles or Doug Marrone? he was told to keep his mouth shut and stay in his lane.

One of the things that I enjoyed so much when I first started coaching in New England was we had the roundtable, so to speak. It was more of a rectangle but we had the knights at the table. And everybody’s opinion was worthy. We knew at the end of the day whatever coach Belichick said was what we were going to do. But your voice was heard. Your voice was heard. Your opinions were taken [seriously], and it made you feel so good when either the next day or that week, or when you saw something that was your view was being used.
