Might want to check your history with Mayo. We had #7 from SF (they wanted Staley the year prior) and we dropped down to 10 (netting a 3rd in the process). The better comparison would be Daniel Graham or Chandler Jones.

I've gone on record saying I'd trade up to 21 if Metcalf is available. He's a risky prospect due to injuries and limited role, but he's clearly the best at what he does -- his overall release package and downfield explosion is unrivaled this class. If we want a premium X then he's about as impressive as they come. Pair him with McLaurin at 56/64 and you have an excellent starting point for the future.

I don't like Metcalf as a player, he doesn't fit what we do on offense, isn't ready for a pro style system, and the value certainly isn't there to trade up.

This might be the move I would most hate to see on draft day. I think he has a large bust possibility. If we want the freakish athlete with speed and size I'd rather we looked at Hakeem Butler later.

I’m with @zimmy , I’d rather have Butler. Metcalf is X-receiver only whereas Butler has big slot versatility and, I think, offers some of what Gronk did in the passing game.

I'm on board with a round-1 receiver this year, which I'm usually against. But it's a deep receiver class, IMO without a single obvious standout. That doesn't sound like a trade-up scenario to me. In fact, in a class like this I think there chances of hitting gold would be a lot better by using the pick they would trade up with on another WR lottery ticket.

DKM was used as a go/curl route specialist in Ole Miss so honestly there is a lot of things we don't know about him. Some analysis video I saw on Youtube suggests that he can run a slant route really well too but he is rarely asked to run that route (all the middle of the field stuff was handled by AJ Brown).

If we draft him DKM would be a bigger, stronger Brandin Cooks IMO, except DKM is better at curl routes while Cooks is better at comeback routes. And because DKM is bigger and stronger, he should be more effective against press coverage compared to Cooks.

And since he's a big dude, if we can get him to commit to run blocking I'm sure he'd be really good at it.

Supposedly DKM does have concentration drops which Cooks didn't have, so that'd be a concern.

Idk, DKM is a really intriguing prospect. I prefer AJ Brown because he can run a more diverse route tree, but if DKM falls to #32 while Brandin Cooks has been passed around the league for 1st round picks, I don't think it would be unreasonable to take a shot at him.

He's the definition of boom or bust, great measurables but numbers were mediocre in college. Can he run the full route tree or develop the ability to do so? Or will opposing corners just have to look out for four route patterns? At that point he pretty much just becomes a red-zone jump-ball specialist and do you really want to be spending a first and extras to move up on that? I'm not even going to mention the drop-rate, as that's another red flag.

If he develops the ability to run all the routes and bullies corners at the LOS, he'll be an all-pro. It''s just the developing part that's the hardest.

Didn’t watch a whole lot of his game but his workout was off the charts. He’s raw but explosive looking. Reminds me of Dez Bryant but with a better first step and speed. Just don’t know about his catching ability. I’d guess his ceiling is Terrel Owens and his floor is David Givens. Hard one to project. Lot of interest from Baltimore.

Would be more than ok to select Butler if he’s there at 56 or a trade up.

I don’t see the Pats trading for a boom or bust receiver when there are so many good ones available in the draft. A trade up means we’re going for a lineman, either defensive or offensive, imho.

Metcalf doesn't seem to be a system fit. But he will probably be good for someone else.

He seems more like a Dez Bryant type of receiver. Wins battles based on physical gifts but not a technician or a great route runner.

He'll be good in the NFL for someone but has a high potential not to pick up our complex offense.

I'm not sure I agree. He's pretty refined with how he wins at the line of scrimmage. He doesn't run a diverse route tree, but he's actually quite good at the routes he does run. He doesn't just out-jump everyone like Bryant did. Even if that's true, though, his physical talents >> Bryant, and aren't necessarily going to diminish over the course of his rookie contract.

The only reason we're not talking about him as a top 5 lock is because he lost so much time to injury. So, yes, there's a risk in that regard, but I truly believe he can be another Julio (though he may not reach his potential, depending on where he goes).

I expect Metcalf to be the surprise faller this year. I think he makes it to the 20s. There are just so many other good WRs and he's a not refined enough to be a slum dunk guy. The bust potential is real and its hard to pick a non qb with just potential that high.
