Fallers = Value?

The big boards are littered with "fallers" which may equate to value with some risk.

Personally I like round 1 picks to be clean (both in health and character) but will entertain other risks further down in the draft as long as they have a strong work ethic / character. Chances are if someone can't behave in college it will get worse once they have money. Don't get me wrong, I am not preachy and don't really believe in the Patriot way. It just seems that work ethic is what gets a player from potential to NFL contributor.

• Simmons, DT - ACl, plus some douche baggery
• Timmons, DL - torn pec
• Polite - punkish attitude
• Brown, WR, Oklahoma - size, foot injury

Many, many other for injury, testing, bad systems, etc.

Does anyone have a favorite risk/value candidate?

Yodney Cajuste, the OT from WV, just had surgery again and may drop to our third rounders, which would be solid value.

Not a favourite per se but Irv Smith has size and athleticism question marks. Wide receivers could fall in day two/early day three purely because of the sheer depth of the class and because I suspect teams will have them ranked all over the place.

Simmons ACL Tear doesn't worry me that much, If it was 20 years ago i would be more worried, but it's a standard injury and the recovery seems to be going really well for him. The Incident is more of an issue for me, but he has shown outside of that he's been a model citizen. I'd love to take him at 32.

Polite - If he's injured or not his attitude to everything is appalling. I've seen him apparently going third round..

Brown his size worries me. He's 5'9 and 166lbs..

Simmons is fantastic, I absolutely love his tape. I fear his history might have him off our board though. And we sort of need a contributor this year from our first rounder. His ACL tear makes this a red shirt year.

Time to get technical with wording, I am looking at people who may slide (different than fall). Not someone who is falling because of any red flags but more of a "What if?", example what if player X is available at 32.

I don't think this guy will fall to 32 and it is not a top position of need, but a semi-binkie of mine is Devin Bush Jr., LB, Michigan.

I know he is short but I think he could play 5-10 years at a very high level as a MLB and would project as an immediate starter and add special teams value.

Any other binkies that people hope slide?

That’s a good, useful, distinction. I’m always suspicious of people who fall through red flags. In terms of sliders, Zach Allen sliding to 64 would be mine.

Riley Ridley falling to 97/101 because of his lack of testing numbers would thrill me.
Parris Campbell for his lack of route running experience falling to 64 is another one. A few strong safeties have fallen in recent years too.

Irv Smith will slide - and the more I think about it, the more I don't want him even at 56/64. He doesn't really have the size or athleticism you want in a top tier TE. Plus he has been coached really well so there really isn't much room to grow. I'm not sure you could coach him to a higher level. What you see is what you get. Knox, Sternberger, Warring etc in round 2-3 all have the chance to develop into better pros.

Probably a waste of time but say he ends up as QB4 in the draft he could fall to the end of round 1. IMO, he is a good fit in McDaniels' offense:



I'm a fan of his play. He goes through his progressions well, shows good football IQ & by all accounts shows strong leadership/competitiveness at the position. His weaknesses (1 year starter, questionable accuracy outside the pocket, lacks mobility) wouldn't matter as much in NE.

Not sure they can afford using 32 on a QB with the needs elsewhere but he will be an interesting story line on draft day regardless.

I haven’t done any work on QBs this year so I’ll take your word for it. I don’t know how I feel about us taking one. The need is there at some stage, I’m just hoping it isn’t for a year or two but Gronk has gone and Brady and Edelman’s time is coming closer to the end. The future is very much on my mind.

Another player who has good tape but wasn't to complete all the testing (hurt hammy at pro day) is Nasir Adderly, Safety from Delaware.

This site has him as a top 20 talent, if he is there are 56 it is worth considering. At a minimum he could help on special teams and provide depth / flexibility to the secondary. I love everything Chung brings to the table but am always afraid his body won't be able to take the abuse much longer.
