2018 / 2019 Celtics Open Discussion

Question: Is a win without Leader/Closer Kyrie more satisfying?

they look like a better team without him. im sure statistics prove me wrong, but they look and play different without him

I have been to 2 Celtics games this year ...
Not saying they are a better team without him ...
But they play harder when he is on the bench - what does that say?

Maybe they believe they can lay back and let irving carry them. IMO it would be a monumental mistake to sign irving to a long term contract. He Always has an excuse or points fingers at his team mates even going as far as blaming or second guessing brad stevens. Hes a cancer, let him go to the knicks.

Watching this team play is sometimes like dragging one's genitals through a pile of broken glass. This game is one of those times.

Gotta give credit where credit is due. The C's were impressive last night at Indy ....across the board. Kyrie opened strong. Tatum's ball handling skills were impressive. Hayward was perfect. Al, Aussie Sniper, Lock-down Smart....more than solid
Indy is toast

He usually sits vs bad teams. Only good team they've beaten without him is Philly.

So is anyone optimistic beyond beating the Pacers?
They need to play defense for the entire game like last year ... so we'll see.

Draft update:
According to tankathon.com (great website), as of 7:54 AM April 9, 2019, Boston draft pick slots are as follows:

#14 from Sacramento
#18-#20 (3 way tie) from LA Clippers
#22 Boston
#52 Boston

Most interesting is the #1-#8 protected Memphis pick that current resides out of the money at #7-#8 (2 way tie with Dallas). Just a few days ago, this pick dropped to #9 before a Memphis loss lifted them to current position.
Memphis has 2 games left: vs Detroit on road, a reeling team fighting for the final playoff position in the East, and vs Golden State at home, a team with nothing to gain.
Dallas also has 2 games left, at Milwaukee and home vs Indiana....both teams with nothing to gain.
New Orleans who sits at #9 has one game left vs Golden State at home.

Odds are that the Memphis pick ends as a protected pick but never discount all teams' desire to tank this time of year. Memphis might screw up and win a game giving Boston a chance to draft at #9.

Boston will no doubt lose their final game vs Washington given the list of players sitting this one out. Currently #22 Boston is within one game of #18 -#20 LA Clippers (3 way tie) while San Antonio and OKC are still battling for playoff position.

Does Boston want #9 this year to go with their other 3 mid first rounders?
With so many picks, will Trader Danny feel the need to draft young foreign players knowing they won't play in the US next season.

No draft pick clarity yet. C's 4 potential #1's all involved in pre-lottery lotteries Friday 4/12 to determine lottery order.
Now that the regular season’s over, here’s where Celtics’ four first-round picks are positioned - The Boston Globe
Pre lottery lottery complete and the luck of the leprechaun touched all colors but green

Celts pick.....22 (locked in)... could have been 21
Clippers pick....20 (locked in)...could have been 18
Kings pick .....14 (slotted in / subject to lottery adjustment....could have been slotted at 12
Memphis pick....8 (slotted in / subject to lottery adjustment....could have been slotted between 7-9

Memphis pick has 46% chance of dropping out of protected 8 at lottery

They can get a solid player at 14 and probably 2 stash players with 20 and 21.
I doubt we get the Memphis this year which is no big deal.

For comparison purposes, Terry Rozier was a #16 pick. (Dooooooomed)

Have to believe one #1 pick will be used to replace Scary unless Flat Earther bolts and Ainge panics and resigns Rozier.

On another note, what if the Celtics were playing Brooklyn in the playoffs. I’m not so sure Boston would win this series. Couldn’t beat them on the road.
Consider Boston’s roster has been fortified by Brooklyn’ s high draft picks and 3 max salary stars, yet Brooklyn and it’s piecemeal roster would be competitive IMO.

is anybody else annoyed as hell that the Bruins and Celtics are on the same time? friday too. I can't ever remember it happening.

I'm not annoyed.
The Bruins series is/was far more compelling while this Celtics series was an exercise in adding playoff $$$$ into ownership and league coffers and therefore a colossal waste of viewer's time. I think I invested 8 minutes total to watch the Celtics drift for 4 games vs a team of JAGs.
The real playoffs begin now....though the B's will still be my priority. They actually care :)

Buh-bye Smeltics.

What a clown show Danny has made this once-proud franchise.

Who needs the Greek Freak when we have...oops...had...the Gonzaga Goober?

That the young guys get to be instinctively more decisive without having to wonder where Kyrie is

He wasn’t a Greek freak when he was drafted. 20/20 hindsight is pretty ridiculous given who they were on draft day

By the way, 7 players drafted before Olynyk have fewer career points....just sayin
