Seems like these guys haven’t had much of a market. Is there a chance we bring one back at this point?

Would’ve thought Marty P would’ve given Brown 10 mill per year by now.

Unless it’s a depth move, I don’t think so. They’re both merely JAGs. I think we’re going to see a first round DT.

as 3rd or 4th DT they are fine.

I'm still expecting us to keep one of them, but at this point who knows

If they’re moving toward the Schiano style of defensive line (as the Bailey visit hints at), then I think it makes sense to being Shelton back. He never really developed ideal two-gapping ability, but he was perfectly fine when they asked him to penetrate and run people over.

He was so pefectly fine that he found himself as a healthy scratch through a significant chunk of the season.

As a depth move, it’s fine. But I’m not so sure the team should be relying on him to be taking starter snaps this year. That’s a risk that, luckily, didn’t bite them in the ass last year. Let’s not play with fire again. Get a toilet clogger in there.

The entire premise of my post is that they may not be looking for that kind of guy anymore. Schiano has never really used a two-gapping nose tackle, and I see zero unrestricted free agents and one draft prospect that could be projected as week 1 starters in that role. Shelton’s skill set, both from his time with the Browns and in limited “attacking” snaps last season, projects much better in a Schiano defense than the standard Belichick defense.

If they’re going to ask the DTs to have the same responsibilities next season as what Shelton struggled with last season, then none of my post applies and Shelton will be gone.

I wish them both well, hopefully with other teams.

seems like they need one of them or sign a veteran DT. Do not want to leave this position completely up to rookies.

Schiano, if history tells us anything, will be running Belichick’s defense and not the other way around. They’re sniffing around Bailey right now seemingly because they project him for the job that you’re projecting Shelton for. They’re doing this because they’re actively trying to find an improvement upon what he gave the team last year. Furthermore, Belichick’s defense still needs an anchor at the 0/1-tech that can adequately hold up against the run. That isn’t Shelton and it sure as hell isnt Brown.

Malcom Brown... underrated as far as disappointing/underachieving Pats. He’s had a terrible career here.

I'd be fine bring either back as depth so long as the money is modest. We don't have a ton of interior guys right now, and while I still want a double dip at DT in the draft, you still need rotational bodies to go along with the kids. But that doesn't have to be either Brown or Shelton, as neither player is anything special that you couldn't match with a number of other FA/trade targets.

We need a BIG man or two with Cat like quickness.

I guess he had Dominique Easley to live up to.

I like Shelton as a DT vs inside running teams ...
Problem is how much is that worth ... that role puts him inactive for a bunch of games.
We can find someone to fill that role in later rounds of the draft also or even undrafted.

Run free, sweet fat Prince.
