He carved out a role, but very underwhelming as a 1st round pick. Like others have said he’s JAG rotational DT.

    Fair enough, BUT...

One would hope that our recent first round pick would be an integral part of the team, as opposed to someone we don’t care about losing and that some jerks make fat jokes about.

Mediocre doesn't mean bad, doesn't mean good. I think Brown is the definition of mediocre.

I was freaking out when they drafted him, was so pumped and thought he was a steal where we got him

It's a shame he turned out to be a mega bust..

Not "Gigantic Bust", just didn't live up to his first round draft status.
He's had a much better career so far than say.... Johnny Manzeil..... That's a gigantic bust.

Neither have panned out great, but the reason Indy was mocked was because they had like 5 speedy outside receivers already on the roster.

Agreed. The hate is a bit over the top; Brown wasn't all bad. Yet regardless of where he was drafted, his production track record makes Brown not a difficult ingredient to replace. It is what it is as his 'loss' is a minor blip on the radar.

Good luck to Brown personally while hoping his team falls flat on its face (not exactly a wildly unlikely hope :))

Brown started out well, but his game plateaued and he never took it to the next level. That final development step to dominance just never happened.

Was it because of poor coaching or lack of motivation or lack of skill?

Many were happy when he fell to us at 32, but in hindsite, maybe it was not a fall and the other teams saw the ram brown and we did not.

The offensive tackle from ole miss, little, looks to me like the next brown in terms of not reaching the next level.

    Sarcasm??

Id serious, outside of Flowers who has been lost that will be difficult to replace?
Patterson? (While not an exact 1:1 replacement, Bolden is that utility guy that is, IMHO, a nice pickup)
Brown DT? (If we can't replace a mediocre DT (paging Sealver Siegler [spelling]) then our FA losses are small against a more systemic problem.)
    Rowe?
    Hogan?
    Allen?
That's who has been lost. Again outside of Flowers who has a contribution level that is too steep to replace? And Bennett + the money saved for other players may be, maybe, the better deal.

Yes, Brown the LT is a loss, no doubt, but 1. his cost made it unwise for the wallet lean Patriots, 2. in theory we have a replacement ready.

FA isn't over yet and it could get worse. It could also get better. But even modest dread over that list is unwarranted

Brown wasn't THAT bad, he made some plays over his tenure here.

Now Shelton? Can't say the same.

just because they are not top tier players doesn't make the statement any less valid. the only guy we've resigned is dorsett, everyone else on that list had many more snaps.

If you think Malcom Brown was a "mega bust," then you're essentially saying these words have no meaning.

He was a mediocre defensive lineman, arguably a rotational player at best. For a 1st round pick, that is a bust especially when you compare him to other defensive lineman we've drafted in the 1st round

That's not the definition of a bust. Seldom do you see busts start 51 games over four seasons for a team, much less the Patriots.
