Patriots believe Gronk will play in 2019

Giardi makes it sound a bit more uncertain.

How do you mean? he's just quoting (and sneaking in self-credit as per usual).
He's just a puppet - he doesn't have a clue. Any reliable source goes directly to Shefty, Rap & co.

I meant the "tentatively" part.

I honestly don't think he is a puppet but has a similar set of sources as Curran.

I always thought Gronk wants to play but its not easy going through the offseason/preseason grind without any guarantees - esp. with his inj history but also his status as one of the biggest NFL stars..

Not sure when they can touch the contract since i forgot exactly what they did last summer. Maybe @Kenneth Sims can fill us in..

No offense to @Kenneth Sims but I'd rather try to summon @Miguel because we have heard so many takes on that "can't redo contract within a year" thing that I don't know what to believe anymore.

He’s under contract so of course they’ll say they “believe” he’ll play

I would take anything that Rapoport says with a grain of salt.

It's rapsheet, I'll wait until Schefter reports it.

My guess is that Gronk would like the team help him make up his mind by offering to convert some of the 2019 incentives in his contract into roster bonuses. (Since that doesn't change the total value of the deal, they could do it as many times a year as they want.)

And TBH, Gronk could make a strong case that the Patriots should do it. Once it became clear that his injuries would keep him from hitting any of his 2018 incentives, the smart move for him, money-wise, would be to shut it down and focus on getting healthy with an eye toward his 2019 incentives.

By playing hurt, he subjected himself to more bodily wear and tear and the chance of further injuries, and though the contributions he was capable of making wouldn't earn him any extra money, it was still of vital importance to the team's season.

If you want that type of team-first mentality to be part of the team's culture, it should be publicly recognized and rewarded.
