A question....can't we give the Giants some signing bonus money back to sweeten the deal? For example, we could trade a 1st, a 3rd, and give the Giants 5M in cash....which would take away 5M from our cap???
Good point about BB trying to fix the WR1 position. But, he’s clearly not been prepared to do it at any cost as shown by his readiness to let Cooks leave.
No because the money they paid him up front was part of a 5 year deal. When they signed the deal 7 months ago they valued him at his salary plus 5 mill a year of amortized bonus. Now they would be saying he isn’t worth the salary alone and they are fine having paid himliterally the definition of a sunk cost is a cost that you cannot recoupe. The contract was signed. they should trade him before that. but if they want to move on. The contract is irrevalent. These are rational decision making. not saying they have to be rational.
Would love OBJ but that cost is not the way it happens here unless one caveat. The shockeroo was Gilmore 2 years ago and now he's a steal. I think BB has to think big picture in what year two and year three OBJ "sticker price" looks like. Perhaps $16mm is a fair price in 2020-2021?
If you have that for-site, go out and get him but offer Gronk and Edelman another raise like $2mm per. We still need more but invest less. I get a steady added WR or a reclamation project as a value add on the cheap. Richard Higgins from Cleveland comes to mind. As a tender signing he is a fifth round cost and less than $3mm per year. Another cheap sign might be Chris Coney from the Chiefs. Good size, tremendous speed and great blocker. He's also young and he signs for less than Amendola. A reclamation project that can be had for a lower pick and still on his 5 year Rookie slary is Kevin White. He played very well against us last year.
Now this year's WR Draft class is weak. Look to fill more advantageous positions of need, but you have fixed a WR depth problem, fed Gronk to return, made Edelman's day. got your face of the Pats #1 WR that hasen't been here since Moss and done all for less or near than what Oakland paid. Just my two cents

Yeah cuz we may only win the Sb if we don’t have one againWell there’s clearly a WR depth issue but I think it’s more than that. We saw a diminution of Gronk’s ability to score in the RZ last year and no other WR stood up in that regard. We do need an impact player at the position.

A SB in which we only scored 13 points I’ll note. We can obviously survive without a WR1 type, we clearly have in the past, but the acquisitions of Cooks and Gordon certainly suggest BB wants to upgrade at the position.
sunk cost is a counter intuitive concept. if the Giants value the compensation more than OBJ being on the team, they should trade him. His signed contract should not matter. Same as if you married a girl four months ago and gave her half of your asset ALREADY, and now you prefer being single than being with her.No because the money they paid him up front was part of a 5 year deal. 40 mill for 1 year.
I understand where you are coming from but your argument implies cutting a guy you gave a 40 mill bonus to 7 months ago is the same as cutting a guy with no bonus. It’s just not.
I said I'd go 1 & 3 but could get down w this. One of maybe 2-3 WR I'd trade for. He's that special & would absolutely make our team better. Try/hope we snag one of the top 3 TE to plug/play & our offense looks as scary as ever. What about a 2019 first and then a 2020 3rd that could be optioned up to a 2nd depending on performance/playing time.
It doesnt suggest he wants to do so at a high price though.A SB in which we only scored 13 points I’ll note. We can obviously survive without a WR1 type, we clearly have in the past, but the acquisitions of Cooks and Gordon certainly suggest BB wants to upgrade at the position.
