I'm not debating the acquisition.

I'm questioning why he is getting a pay raise.

My guess is he needed a little "incentive" to go to the Raiduhs

My guess is since they are rebuilding and looking to be in the mix in three years......the amount of money doesn't really mean anything as long as that money comes available when they need it for second contracts.

As far as an enticement....probably because nobody wants to be hopeless while re-building.

Ditto moving to a new city.

I get all that.

I just think its ridiculous to cave into the player.

He’s done it for so long it’s hard to consider him a product of the system or teammates, IMO.
The raiders literally had no one to throw to before this, and theoretically adding a guy who requires this much attention should help the young guys they will plug in with him.
Not a product exactly, but you still need a decent QB to get the ball to you, and I am not sure the Raiders have that. Also, AB has never played with anyone other than Big Ben. Say what you will about him (can't stand him myself), but Big Ben is a gunslinger who sometimes manages to pull off insane throws.

He’s very good and he’s the only receiver that even has a chance to match Rice’s records if he can have a long career at this pace. That said, I don’t value WR’s a whole hell of a lot

Thankfully, neither does senor Belichick.

There is definitely a PR value to the Raiders for this move. They will now be talked about (legitimately or not) for the rest of the offseason as perhaps making a bold move that will allow them to keep up with (and maybe overtake several of) the teams in their division. That will keep people buying tickets and staying interested. At least until the first game of the season...

Oakland's also got a bunch of cap space and a bunch of high draft picks. A smart/lucky GM and coach can have that team competing for the playoffs this year or next.

Funny how patsfans has zero collective memory about a time where the team was not a top echelon contender needing to make every cap dollar count.

Maybe we should celebrate twenty years of zero PR moves and clown show moves!!!

Most NFL players are fungible and totally replaceable in time. James Connor is a good RB running behind a real good offensive line. JuJu Smith-Schustor is a good WR getting open and catching passes against single coverage. Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell are special players who will take some time to replace. In fact, I think the Steelers offense with a declining and increasingly turnover prone Roethlisberger have relied on the exceptional skills of Brown and Bell to be successful.

My Steeler fan friends are convincing themselves that Brown can be replaced. I think they are deluding themselves and will find that Roethlisberger needed Brown much more than Brown needed Roethlisberger.

Jesus. Now Pittsburgh post gazette journalist Gerry Dulac is saying a source emphasized the trade is agreement only..."not over until it's over". What a great look if true. The squeelers can't handle the backlash. Watch them back out. What a clown show.

So there’s still a chance he comes here?? o_Oo_Oo_O

As the kids say, it's complicated. There are a lot of issues in OAK that Carr has had to deal with.

BSPN ( How the NFL's worst quarterbacks can improve in 2019 ) said this about Carr:
Biggest issue in 2018: Choose one: a leaky offensive line that saw Carr sacked a career-high 51 times (he took 36 sacks combined in 2016 and 2017); no speedy playmakers at receiver (the inconsistent Amari Cooper was traded Oct. 22); a steep learning curve in Jon Gruden's back-to-the-future offense (dink, dunk, bomb?). It truly was a baptism by fire for Carr, who entered the season with many people simply wondering how he would react to Gruden's oft fire-and-brimstone coaching approach. Having a pair of rookie tackles in first-rounder Kolton Miller protecting his blind side and third-rounder Brandon Parker also had to test the confidence of Carr, who has suffered a broken right (passing) finger, a fractured right fibula and three broken bones in his back since Dec. 24, 2016. He admitted to "taking inventory" after big hits, although the quarterback did improve in the second half of the season.
And:
How he can improve in 2019: A more buttoned-up O-line, a speedy No. 1 receiver and a threat at running back to open up the play-action game would do wonders. Though perhaps simply a second season with Gruden will produce a bounty. Consider: The only other time Carr played in the same system for a second consecutive year, in 2016, he played at a league MVP level. Then there's this -- after throwing seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in the Raiders' first six games, Carr had 12 TDs and two INTs after the bye, the TD-INT ratio of 6.0 the fourth best in the NFL in Weeks 8-17. He also had a streak of 332 passes without a pick, the third-longest streak in NFL history. Sure, Carr might have the third-most losses by a QB in his first five NFL seasons (his 46 career defeats are seven behind his brother David and three behind Blake Bortles), but there are some positive things to build upon.
It seems to me that OAK has a good understanding of their problems and are making moves in the right directions. But of course, no guarantees that they fix things. Carr needs to heal mentally and physically and get comfortable with what Gruden is asking him to do. He has shown flashes before, it's up to Gruden and Mayock to get him into a productive situation.

I'm of course happy to see that PIT has totally mishandled both Brown and Bell. They're left with a smoking hole in their salary cap and, and two of the most talented players in the game are lost to them, and Ben is one bad hit away from packing it all in.

Jeff Allen illustrates why the Steelers would have been better off just mothballing Brown.

Chiefs’ Jeff Allen praises Antonio Brown for disrupting the system

And Florio is bashing the Steelers for allowing this to happen.

Steelers need to slam the door on players talking their way out of town
This. The Steelers are the ones to blame here, imo. Excellent precedent they just set. Have to think plenty of owners aren't to happy about how they failed so miserably here, in the handling of the situation.

Without AB, looking forward to the Pats D raping of Big Ben.

That might be the first sentence in the history of the world where the word 'rape' was used and Big Ben was the object in the sentence.

Colbert drafts the best available athlete, top players act as they choose because the coach allows it but the coach allows it because the GM not only tolerates it but continues gathering talent rather than building a team, the GM is secure because...??? Pictures of Rooney commiting unnatural acts with barnyard animals maybe?
After the embarrassment of the Bell fiasco if Rooney had a clue and wanted to regain control of their runaway train the Steelers would have suspended Brown for conduct detrimental, not rewarded him with a trade that got him what he wanted.

Belichick finds himself with an unruly child on his hands and ships him off to Siberia, Colbert gives him the keys to a candy factory.

I think the Steelers handled the whole thing great, from an entertainment perspective :)

Idk about that. This doesn't feel like Cleveland to me. They might there in 3-4 years after hitting on most of their picks, everything else going right for them but their a bottom 5 team for the next 2 years.

AB does absolutely nothing helping them win now. Team & 84 are heading in two different directions in terms of being ready to win.

And until further notice Gruden absolutely sux at team building/drafting & he hired a yes man in Mayock. Being objective that sounds like a nightmare only getting worse. Literally every move he's made is a joke so far.

I'm a huge believer in the thought that it doesn't take forever to win in the league but this franchise looks to be Cleveland 5-10 years ago not the Browns team we see now to use an example of a poor team turning it around.
