The same people said the same thing about the Eagles when Chip Kelly dumped "Shady" and "DJax".

Ya can't win with meatheads.....if you could, Pittsburgh might have done something besides getting humiliated in the 2016 AFCCG.

Their offensive line is intact. I bet they could replicate our 2018 offense in relative short order and they will not have the meatheads (except Rufusburger) around anymore.

Their ability to rebuild the defense will be key and it's a deep defense draft.
My point is how they let players run the asylum. Tomlin is weak and enabled Brown. Bell should have been traded 2 years ago. Roeth is out of control.

I'm not debating the acquisition.

I'm questioning why he is getting a pay raise.

My guess is he needed a little "incentive" to go to the Raiduhs
He made it clear he wasn't reporting anywhere until he had a new contract, with lots of guaranteed $

Brown was the rare player that received the Pats CB1 and safety help at times whether it was Butler or Gilmore. The pass rush has looked mediocre vs. Pitt’s elite OL since it’s been tough to blitz them with AB/Bryant & AB/Juju on the field.

BB can now double team Schuster & have Gilmore lockdown the WR2. That matchup should be much easier than the last two years.

Plus it’s Pitts turn to come to Gillette the next 3 seasons if we match up with them. They’ve never beat Brady at Gillette and I don’t think any were difficult games. Unless they have a major upgrade on defense it will be some of the worse steeler teams Tom has faced.

I'm in the minority but given his contract and age I never thought the Steelers were getting a first rounder. Given the Raider picks are near the top of each round this equates to a low second rounder or what the Patriots gave up for Corey Dillon back in the day. Dillon was younger and his contract even considering for inflation was easier to handle for the team taking him on than Brown's.

I think with all those picks they already have it's a good deal for the Raiders as well. If you just include the receivers and picks you could look at it as Cooper, a 3rd and a 5th for Brown and a 1st. If Bill pulled that off there would be a vasoline shortage in NE.

As much as we like to bash what everybody else is doing I think this was a good trade for both teams.

Agree, with this 3rd almost 2nd the Steelers scouting department can draft another top flight receiver while we draft another bust.

Fair point. Given how long tomlin allowed this thing to spiral out of control and how badly the Steelers botched the handling, a high 3+5 is not horrible. They took a chance since the fb live thing and other issues that were reportedly going on, at that time he could have been has for a strong 1st, maybe more.

They decided to reap the benefits of a couple more seasons of his production and hope the issues magically disappear which didn’t happen, they are taking a big hit for it but apparently they found it worth the risk.

Like losing leveon, they wll suffer in the short term from this. If they can build up that defense and morph into a power run team they could still be a pretty good team eventually. But they really have alot of holes defensively .

At this point, I don't think they care because he will be gone when they need that money and it's a "splash" thing. I would not be suprised if this is used to evaluate Carr.

This move infers Gruden thinks he'll be ready to compete with KC....(LA) in three years and he'll need that money not a on the glidepath down Cooper and Mack.

The Las Vegas Raiders need a headliner to put butts in seats and sell merchandise while they figure out how to build a winning roster over the next couple of years. This makes perfect sense in that regard.

And, as someone points out above, they need volume in this draft, and have 4 in the top 35. The Pats need quality in this draft. The two have been common trading partners, and the Raiders' current management gets along well with the Pats'. Hmmm.

I think they completely misplayed it. They could have created more bidding but they wanted to dictate the landing area. I’m not sure why they didn’t contact the Giants about swapping Brown for OBJ?
They probably did and the giants are still laughing at them.

Why would the Giants do that trade?

Brown had a regression last season. His production was a result of him being forced balls by Big Ben to keep him satisfied. Throwing to Brown, Ben had a 61% completion rate and threw 10 INTs. Everyone else? 70% and 6 INTs. In a year, Amari Cooper has a very good chance to be a better WR than Antonio Brown, who turns 31. In 3 years, Cooper seems almost sure to be superior.

You also don't just pay players under contract "free money" to keep them happy. What kind of message does that send? You don't pay elite players like Mack, but shell out money to the WR who makes headlines for being egotistical? Khalil Mack is by no means terribly inconsistent - he had just 4 games without a sack. That's rather consistent if you ask me. There isn't a single DE in the league that gets a sack every single week.
Can’t blame them for the Cooper trade, he was nowhere near that good for them. Trade was great for both sides.

This may help them sell tickets in Vegas. But as of right now they aren't remotely close to competing with KC & the Chargers. And there's no doubt A.B. is a special player. But going from Ben to Carr is a huge downgrade.

Pittsburgh ultimately lost here. They got virtually nothing back for a top five receiver of all time. They got nothing for Bell. They are going down the tubes. And I love it.

That’s because it’s not for clarity, it’s so that Andy can remove context and dictate the argument. He knows this as he’s been told this numerous times. It’s a tactic, nothing more. Andy wants to prosecute his case and believes that he should be able to demand answers from whomever he is interrogating.

I was only joking around with him with that last post. I know his argumentative style is what it is but I personally I try to stay out of them. I like Andy and enjoy his football posts.

Is Bell not part of the comp pick formula next year? Not that the Steelers will play that right and not that another pick will save them from loosing 2 top talents.

He is accounted for in the two third round picks

Gotcha, well then it's even worse because they have to play the game and not sign anyone that will screw up that comp pick.

So basically the Steelers lost their two best players and in return they will get two third round picks and a 5th rd pick, or in other words less compensation than the Pats got for Solder, Butler, Amendola, and Fleming!

Minus the millions in bonus money and giant cap hits left over from Browns contract. What a **** show.

do not forget the Steelers lost Shazier to that horrible neck injury. In a three year span, they lost one top 50 player and two top ten players and got two 3rd round picks.

I would of given a second for AB!! Good deal for the Raiders!!

Antonio Brown was a 6th round pick.

For anyone that believes that the Steelers wont find a good WR to replace Brown via the draft guess again. If youre half as good as Brown youre still good.

Brown was pixxed off because JuJu blew up last season and is every bit of a stud that Brown is. Trade the cancer and Bell can go on too. The Pats would do the same with Bell wanting crazy money. The only mistake Pitt made was not dealing Bell last season.

My takeaways

1. The Steelers got bent over. They got bent over so bad that part of me thinks they were better off being spiteful and making him sit.

2. Then part of me remembers that the Steelers limited their own choices by deciding they didn’t want him on a contender. So can’t feel entirely bad for them

3. Brown got exactly what he wanted, however he’s going to quickly become a joke if he declines, his team can’t win, and or he makes a stink about it.

4. This worked out pretty well for us. Brown didn’t even go somewhere where we might see him in the Super Bowl on the NFC side. He weakened one of the most consistent obstacles we have and then went to the stacked division where the emerging threat is, just to make things messier. He didn’t even go to San Fran like he wanted where he could have made us regret the Jimmy G trade.

5. The Steelers window with Ben is closed.
