I'm with Deus on this. The WR position needs to be built from the top down, not from the bottom up. And it needs to get younger, not older.

If Amendola signs it is to replace one of the bottom guys that were there this past year, and will have little affect on the overall needs in the position.

I disagree. We have our top receivers, especially if Gronk stays. What we need is depth to spread the offense. That can be accomplished with some high end picks but also with some good reliable low tier FAs. We honestly need both rather badly right now.

If we don't fill out our depth with quality options that are a fit or our system we risk exposing whoever else we bring in. Since we can't count on Gordon, and shouldn't count on rookie wideouts to produce on day 1, battle-proven veterans like Dola are one of the better decisions we could make.

My guess is Edelman, Dorsett, draft pick, Patterson and Berrios/FA

First impressions of Berrios is that he's tiny I hope he adds a little more mass: so that Safeties and LB's don't air mail him after every Catch. Also I want no part of Cole Beasley he's going to be mush for brains pretty soon like Austin Collie many moons ago. Beasley took some wicked unnecessary shots over the past seasons.

Some Teams have Found Gem WR's in the past years in the First - Second and Third rounds. Not an exact science but not total failure either....Scouts and Coaches have to do their homework. Malcolm Mitchell minus the knee injury was a find.

Which is why a reliable 3/4 option are going to be critical.

I understand the temptation to try to pile depth on top of a corps, but that isn't usually how BB operates, so if you want to insist that he sell the farm for a premium wideout in complete defiance of the fact that he has only ever done this for one player in his entire tenure as coach/GM, I'd just tell you to prepare for disappointment.

Besides, if we add depth below Edelman and Gronk, rather than exhausting our energy trying to swing for elusive home run talent, they might last longer because we won't have to ride them like rented mules just to get through from game to game..

My point over the past three Drafts Teams like Pittsburgh - Atlanta and Denver have found some good first year WR's. I know there is fear around here because of the miserable record of Drafted Receivers. But one of these days we are gonna hit on a young one. Even a blind Squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

I'm all for the Patriots drafting WRs this year. If they can find both a rookie SlotWR and a rookie OWR who'll be ready to contribute by season's end, that will be great. But it's considered to be a weak WR class, and the Patriots have struggled trying to draft WRs under BB, so eggs and baskets and all that.
