As much as I hate the guy... he just OWNED Dale and Holley. I think they let him off the hook way too easy.

Thoughts?

Umm tell us how he owned them and we will give you our thoughts.

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

Basically, Holley asks him to specifically explain why he said what he did on SNF (about BB and the punishment he feels that he should have gotten).

Collingsworth went on like a 10 minute rant about how he stands for "the truth" , and doesn’t care about making friends with coaches, owners, or anyone else... He feels that based on his "indept"research on the situation, that what Belichick did was even worse for the integrity of the game, than what Pac man Jones, Mike Vick, (insert suspended convicts names) have done, because it actually affected the outcome of games.

He said that he talked to coaches across the league, and although they are not allowed to speak about it publicly, they have conveyed to him that they are absolutely furious over this thing. Then he went on to say that about half of the coaches and GM's he talked to, applauded "The RAT" for doing what many of them felt was the right thing and FINALLY coming forward to expose Belichick for something that he has been doing since his days in Cleveland.... Blah, blah, blah... It went on and on and on....

Dale and Holley were basically rendered defenseless by him. It was embarrassing to be quite honest.

I agree. He did lay a smackdown on them. But Holly easily could have come back with a couple of things, but chose not to out of maintaing decorum for the show (is there such thing on WEEI?) . Colllinsworth was dug in and gave off the vibe that he was going to defend his position at all cost. I don't agree with him, but I respect the fact at least stuck to his origional position and did not waver one bit.

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

and yet a month later still NOBODY has produced methodology as to how using the videotaped signals presents an unfair advantage either in the game being recorded or in future games. The closest we got is Peter Kings account of BB using the tapes to determine which coordinators are slow to make signals so that we could use more no huddle against them. Is that what's sullying the integrity of the game?

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

Doping and salary cap violations don't affect the outcome of games? Why are there rules against them, then?

Seriously, D&H are more than a little slow if they weren't able to rebut any of that nonsense. If he says "about half" of coaches without naming specifics, you can bet that the real number is well below that. And considering several players, coaches, and former coaches have PUBLICLY said quite the opposite, which opinion do you think carries more weight?

The guy's a vulture, plain and simple. As I said before, any media member who can garner attention by yelling and screaming is an asset to his company. Don't make me laugh about "research" - sports writers don't even begin to understand the meaning of "research" and "truth."

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

he stands for "the truth"

I like Collingsworth, he is not afraid to rip players, GMs or the media. He has a lot more access than we do and his opinion is his opinion. At least he didn't sugar coat his position.

Watching NESN today they were talking about Harrison coming back from an 'unfortunate situation'. What the hell is that? An unfortunate situation is slipping in the shower or having a reporter break your ear drum. Harrison is coming back from a 4 game suspension for taking performance enhancing drugs (aka cheating).

The ball washing that goes on is unreal.

That's because he gets paid for getting attention, good or bad. It has nothing to do with "truth."

Plus he said that every single person was willing to admit that sign stealing is done everywhere, but somehow the addition of the camera (which he admitted at least one other team did, I think Miami) was what damaged the integrity of the league. Amazingly enough, he seemed to miss a giant fallacy in his own argument. He stressed multiple times the league's reminder about not using the camera, but that has no relevence to the impact on the "integrity". Sure it is mildly insulting to the league and Goodell, but the use of the camera provides the same competetive advantage prior to the statement that it did before.

Also, Chris never discussed how the tapes could be used that truly gave any more of a advantage that traditional sign stealing methods don't. He is just another in a long list of people who want to have it both ways; admit that sign stealing is fine, but punsih NE as if it isn't.

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

I really do believe the whole thing was a set up to justify knocking the Pats down a notch or 2. As I've said before as well as other posters...
The Pats are 2 fcking strong for a league with ideals of parity.
Imagine if we really did go undefeated and won the Super Bowl.
The NFL would have had to suffer the indignity of having this mighty champon go into the 08 draft with 2 first round picks. Just outrageous.
The irony though is that Blioli does not value first round picks as much as the rest of the league.

Oh yeah, and Collinsworth can come down off his fckng cross.

I don't expect to find the truth in an Internet forum. He is still a rare voice amongst a bunch of cronies.

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

While in Cincy my brothers and I ran into a lady that worked as a coaching staff assistant for the Bengals. She laughed about it saying that it is well known within league circles that every team does it. The only difference is that most teams put the camera guy in the stands or a luxery box, including them.

This on top of what Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer etc. said, it is apperant that the people who believe the Patriots cheated are either dishonest or naive.

sp access is research?? Collingsworth..is not worth crap in my book..he looks stupid as if CoachB took the binkie from his mouth. What research did he do..?? Truth?? Thiose that are holier than though are usually those that have a mile long of things they wish to hide..never liked him think he's even worse now. Worse than Pacman Jones?? What BB was worse than a felony? SHows what an idiot he is...I guess BB didn't change his diapers...

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

My Take:

Over the course of questioning, his charge that it affects the integrity of the game seemed to make way to his charge of how BB could be so bold as to defy a specific order from the league.

In other words, he went from maintaining that BB should be suspended for "cheating" to BB should be suspended for effectively telling the league to get off his case (to be polite). The suspensions would be the best punishment is his opinion. His boss Goodell obviously disagrees, so CC may get a reprimand of his own if he continues with this, IMO.

That also explains why the anonymous GMs and HCs were so ticked according to CC. They were reacting more to BBs arrogance than his competitive advantage. Sour grapes is what this is all about folks. Clearly.

D and Hs questioning brought that out and then Ordway responded when he came on, pointing to his waivering position. But they were being cordial so that he would come on again. He was defiant and dug in himself.

We need to continue to demand that CC explains himself in the future whenever he gets back on D and H just as we did this week. As a result, CC may get a boot of his own from little Roger Napoleon Goodell.

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

Facts are facts, no matter where they appear. If Collinsworth says 2 + 2 = 5, but someone here points out that it's 4, who are you going to believe?

"Rare voices" appear everywhere. Doesn't mean they're any more right or wrong, respectable/less respectable than less rare voices. If they attract you more than others...well, they're doing their job well, aren't they?

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

I guess BB didn't change his diapers...

He actually admitted that he has butted heads with BB several times over the years, but maintained that Bill has always been professional ("He never stormed out of a room" is how he put it).

Re: Collingsworth on WEEI

I love these idiots. He'd been doing it since Cleveland. Great, so he's been taping signals for 10+ years and no one hardly did anything about it or complained. But now, magically, it is a heinous, insidious act.

Honestly, if it were such an unfair advantage, you'd think after BB was caught in two games last year, there would have been an outrage or at least there would have been penalties.

Yet absolutely no ramifications for committing the same act less than a year ago. But all of a sudden the magic camera in NY makes the Pats into the 1920s White Sox.

Idiotic.

I didn't say I agreed with him, but the opinions obtained for other league sources are likely accurate. He isn't a fan of BB so he will seek the opinion of people who also don't like BB.

My point was during the broadcasts I have seen he calls out players, coaches or GMs and doesn't try to play all buddy buddy with them.

The truth (as usaul is some where in the middle):
Spectrum A - BB is a cheating devil
Spectrum B - BB is a Saint and was only pulling a prank

My opinion, the Patriots broke a league rule. It was blatant and stupid. The recorded the signals to gain an advantage, an illegal advantage. Whether they used it during games we may never know but why wouldn't they?
