Are the Colts a better team than last year?

Actually, your cites regarding Johnson don't come anywhere near to backing up your claim.

"thought by many to be a potential first day draft pick after earning honorable mention all Big Ten honors in 2006"

IMO, if the guy doesn't get kicked off the Outback Bowl trip, he at least gets an INVITE to INDY, and who knows, but with his suspension and additional troubles, coupled with this most recent transgression at the end of the '06 season, his fate was sealed. But as you can see, EVEN WITH ALL THAT, many at PSU were surprised he went undrafted.

What a joke. Tom Jones is a hick sports writer who does not quote a legitimate draft scout whatsoever. It's his opinion and his opinion alone. Just like Tom Jones, your opinion holds no weight whatsoever on the New England Patriots messsage board.

Since you know nothing about football, here is a place to start:

Good morning there, Mr. Tippett. No, he doesn't name his sources, does he? We'll see if he responds to my e-mail request, will let you know. Knew I read it somewhere though. Didn't realize that the NE MB was the end all be all. Tell you what, why don't you have some of these high level Pats execs who post here look in to it a little deeper. Get back to me, will ya?

Jackson started 8 games in '06, in 14 games. I assume he was injured for the other 2.

Hayden is also now in his third year.

Hey, if you don't HAVE to start a guy in his first or second year, WHY do it??
You play your best players and obviously Jackson and Hayden were not the two best cornerbacks on the Colts roster last year.

All it does is REDUCE the TRADE VALUE of your VETERANS, correct?? IIRC, we received a 4th rounder for Jason David(from N.O.). And next season, as we continue to build via the draft, we should see a few more compensatory picks for a few of the players we lost . Now obviously, I do not advocate playing a severely inferior player, as that strategy of retaining value will obviously back fire. But if you are comfortable with your personnel, and you want to give your younger guys a chance to develop, then so be it. They were not pressed into action. Dungy brought them along the right way, and the Colts played it to perfection. More than ample replacements, and a slew of extra picks to boot. It's part of their Organizational philosophy. And in the draft, it's a numbers game. The more picks you have, the greater the chance of success in finding future starters. As you know, ALL of our draft choices made this team. We would NOT have had all those choices had we kept/signed some of our former players.
Blah! Blah! Blah! Alot of hot air in that paragraph.

Your assumptions that you have posted within this thread prove nothing. If this is all you have to offer, then you are nothing but a blind homer.

NFL Draft Scout is legitimate draft scouting source. Tom Jones, a hick sports writer who knows nothing, is an idiot!

By the way, Ed Johnson was not even worthy of a seventh round draft pick by NFL Draft Scout.

Liar about what? Again, U suck, owned my ass. I'll see what I can find. Now, leave me alone.

You cant find anything. You got exposed. Don't forgot A/T this is the same guy spouting off about how Indy beat the mighty Texans minus half the Texans offensive roster. Watch out

The colts got dinged up pretty nice by the Broncs. Wait until they play a real physical team. I can jus see Sanders now (rolls eyes) The human missile knocking himself out for the season attempting to torpedo into one of our backs as the 50 yard bomb sails over his head.

This Colts troll is completely delusional.

As for undrafted free agent gems, the Patriots have a legitimate one in former LSU cornerback Randall Gay, if only he can stay healthy for an entire season.

You obviously read nothing I posted. I did in fact find a published article that spoke of EJ's draft possibilities. I showed you that Marlin actually started 8 of 14 possible games last season. I explained how benching those CB's would have served no purpose, and only hurt the Colts in the long run. If all 4 are of equal talent, stands to reason that the veterans get the nod, while you work in the younger guys. Marlin played a lot in the Nickle package as well, so he was on the field with those two many times. Hayden was only a 2nd year guy last season, but played plenty of downs, and came up big in the SB. Obviously, BY THE END OF THE SEASON, Colts thought they would be better served letting Harper and David go, knowing guys like Jackson, Bethea, Hayden, and Giordanno would be able to fill those shoes.

As far as the Texans, they are a much improved club, but yes, we clubbed them 27-10, scored 3 offensive points until the 4th quarter.

Spewing venom and saying I'm a liar and am wrong, when I have refuted all your points makes you look silly.

Oh, I don't know, Dom Rhodes was a pretty good UDFA.

A biased source from a Indianapolis hick sports writer, no less.

You are a liar since you claim assertions that none of the following legitimate draft sources make ..........

Scouts, Inc.
Mel Kiper Jr.
NFL Draft Scout
NFL Draft Countdown

You have refuted NOTHING!

The Colts are far worse than last year especially on defense. Between free agency and injuries, the following summarizes the Colts defensive losses:

Anthony McFarland, DT (injured reserve)
Rob Morris, LB (injured reserve)
Cato June, LB (free agency)
Nick Harper, CB (free agency)
Jason David, CB (free agency)

Finally, the Colts have no depth at running back after Joseph Addai.

Heh, you should try WATCHING the Colt's occasionally. Losing Booger and Morris hurt us, there's no denying that. But Freddie K, Marlin, and Kelvin are all 3 HUGE upgrades from the players they're replacing. Marlin and Freddie especially. IMO, Marlin might be one of the hardest hitting, most physical corners in the entire league so far this year.

Also, Kenton Keith is averaging 5.8 yards a carry this year. I'd say thats "quality depth", so far at least.

Please tell me the combined starts of the opposing quarterbacks in the last three Colts games. Nothing like the Colts defense taking advantage of inexperienced quarterbacks, especially with the last two playing without their best wide receiver.

And the pats have yet to play a defense ranked in the top 20.

You're point?

Not to get off track, let's remain on the current topic of whether the Colts are a better team than last year.

I seriously question the lack of depth on the Colts defense, especially along the defensive line and at the linebacker position.

As for your query, you can start a thread whether the Patriots are a better team than last year.

LOL!!!

In the immortal words of Bill Polian, "Mel Kiper? Who the hell is Mel Kiper?"

Good times.

The Colts are obviously not better than last year, but they may not need to be. They need to:

1) Make the playoffs
2) Avoid Foxborough after Thanksgiving
3) Have Peyton, Marvin, Reggie, Joseph, Dallas, Dwight and Bob healthy in January

Anything beyond that is gravy. Do I think that is enough to win a championship? No way. But I said the same thing last year and I was wrong. So what do I know.
