Thomas to IR
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The Patriots have placed tight end David Thomas on injured reserve today, ending his season. The team listed Thomas as having a foot injury on today's injury report. Thomas injured the foot in Monday night's win over the Bengals, and the Patriots have signed Marcellus Rivers to take his spot on the roster.

Oh, the irony. Mays gets cut and signed by the Bengals. Rivers gets re-signed.

The 2006 draft picks can't seem to stay on the field

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. And we had been doing fairly well in the IR category, too. Damnit!

The bar has been set at 1 for Chad Jackson, will CJ have:
  • More catches than Thomas in 2007?
  • Less catches than Thomas in 2007?
  • The same number of catches as Thomas in 2007?

I wonder if this a reinjury of his foot?? Reiss lists it as a foot injury changed from leg...I hope it's not something reoccuring as I think he's a bright spot as a receiviung TE in the future...

Re: David Thomas placed on IR

Damn. I was looking forward to a year of Thomas, but Rivers is a great 3rd TE.

I'm glad Rivers is back..NOT that I don't like Thomas...in fact I think Thomas will be solid in time..he was used for awhile at Texas as Young's go to guy...he just has to stay healthy..but my gut says his foot wasn't totally healed and it's a reinjury..

I've never seen this type of reaction to a team losing its third-string TE.

That's a measure of how good
we think he is / can be.

I'm even amazed at my own dismay
over losing a 3rd TE ... with a capable replacement
(4th, if you count Vrabel.)

This is too bad; Thomas would have made a contribution to the team this year. Rivers looked pretty good in pre-season. It would have been a good opportunity for Garrett Mills-too bad he got picked up by Minnesota.

Oh well. That sucks. I really love what I've seen of DT. Hopefully he's 100% for next year.

Rivers look good enough in the preseason though. Esp. as a TE3.

Let's think of this as our sacrifice to the injury gods.

After all, if this news was about another Thomas we'd be much more upset.

All players are important. Fortunately we have some other quality players at the spot, but I like Thomas.

Having Mills on the team would be nice around now.

Watson is now the only real receiving threat among TEs on the team. And he's playing a LOT of snaps, on all four downs.

That's exactly how I look at it. The Injury Gods are hungry and need to be constantly fed it seems. We are going to lose more people over the course of the year. It always happens.

To bad for David, but I'm excited about Marcellus Rivers being added to the roster. He definately showed some real spunk in pre-season! I'm wondering how Josh will utilize him in game planning...Marcellus has a lot of the same talents as Ben Watson.

Sorry Romeo...I love ya, but your team is gonna get thrashed!!!!!

I think we are doing fine with who we have right now...
Thomas hasn't exactly been a superstar, and we are 4-0. Of course all injuries are bad, and I think he can be good, but I don't think he needs to be a key piece in the team this year.
