Belichick calls LT the best player he's ever coached.

Man Brady is going to be seething on Sunday. The whole Patriots organization is going to be bashing him all week to add fuel to the fire. Edelman just tweeted that Brady’s in decline and Jimmy G. was way better.

As with most rankings.. about as relevant as his best cup of coffee that day

LT is the best he coached but I believe he had a bigger crush on Ed Reed.

The reason why he says this is because bill doesnt treat the players on his roster different than any other.

We know bill thinks LT is the best but what he really means is that he used to be the best.

Bill just cant say it yet.

Tomorrow's wickersham article

" the rift is widening "

Tom Brady was the best decision this organization ever made.

Don't like the comment...really don't like the comment. Bill can say that...FINE... but motivate the Goat BEHIND closed doors.

I hate to criticize but that was one dumb thing to say, really dumb and disrespectful.

I'll say it again...

TOM BRADY WAS THE BEST DECISION THIS ORGANIZATION EVER MADE .

If Bill won't say it, and he won't, as one of millions of Patriots fans I feel i want to defend the man Tom Brady. Maybe we would have been better of with Giovanni Carmazzi.

Come the hell on man...

Per David Halberstam's great book when Belichick's father had someone tell him Bill was a genius he said (paraphrasing from memory) 'Genius? You're talking about someone who works a football sideline. We're not talking about curing cancer here.' So yeah, puffery in Belichick land is probably reserved for someone who isn't in the immediate vicinity and it's safe to say hearts and flowers aren't exactly a Belichick family thing.

UH OH...I KNEW it...

Hot Take: Andre Tippett was not too too much worse than LT.
Yes but if you could draft GOATS LT would be in the Top 3 and Tip would be a mid-late 1st rounder.

I'd have been more surprised if BB had described any active player, even Brady, as "the best I've ever coached." It's just not in his DNA.

But, as a Defensive genius, maybe Belichick really only thinks of himself as "coaching" when it comes to players on that side of the ball. He was comparing another defender to Taylor when he spoke.
I think THAT is the main point. I recall reading somewhere that Bill never ranks players who are still playing, rather waiting until their full careers are over before making such clearly subjective opinions.

Also I think there should be a distinction between who had the greatest impact, vs who was the best individual player. I don't think Brady himself would consider himself the "best football player" (and he's right), but I contend that he believes that he's had the greatest impact to his team of any football player (and he'd be right again. )

I'm sure he was talking about defensive players in reference to Donald.

Lived in NYC during LT's best years....and went to many Giants games during that time...always on the company dime....like everyone else who attended Giants games.
In all my years, I have never seen a defensive player take over games and single handedly destroy opposing offenses like LT did. He was everywhere and no team had an answer for him. The Giants had such a solid D which allowed Taylor to freelance and his instincts were uncanny. Belichick gave him the freedom to create anarchy.
One offseason, I'm waiting for a traffic light near the World Trade Center and there's LT standing next to me, heading the same direction as me. Physically, not that imposing (listed as 6'3" but more like 6'0"...I was taller 6'-1/2") just solid. He entered the same building as me, got off on the same floor as me, and entered the same room as me...the giant Lehman Bros trading floor. And business just stopped for 30 minutes as the King of NY made his way through...tossing footballs around and doing the celebrity thing. Taylor was to NY as Brady is to NE.
A few years later, I'm in the clubhouse of a private New Jersey Country Club filled with members mostly named Tony and Vinny....and there's the newly retired LT in the card room playing big money poker. Learned later that LT practically lived in that card room though he wasn't a member.
The guy had his vices.
Used to see him all around Atlantic City...either wandering casino floors or in night clubs having a hell of a time.

Uh...is there a context I'm missing here cause if BB is ranking LT above Brady I'm going to be mad for the rest of my life.

Bill Belichick ranks LT the best player “I’ve ever coached” but won’t rank Brady

I saw a video of BB saying that LT was the best player in front of a dozen elementary school aged Patriots fans when both Brady and Randy Moss were on his team. I was thinking, "man, stop being so honest and play to the crowd a bit"

I'm guessing that BB won't give up his license to demean, marginalize or criticize Brady until after Brady hangs them up and there's no utility left in his current opinion.

Lawrence Taylor was clearly the best defensive player and it’s not even close imo. Brady is the GOAT QB, but others are closer in the discussion than Taylor has. Also you have realize Jim Brown and Jerry Rice have huge cases for being the best player on their side of the ball. You can’t say that for Taylor.
