Devin McCourty to Retire After Super Bowl Victory?

I said it before and will say it again. Devin was never going to play here under that cap number next year.

I hope he comes back next year at a reduced cap hit but if that isn't in the cards maybe retirement is the best option. He can get out rich, healthy and go out on top; rather than suck 2 years with the Bengals for that last 20 million.

Not that I would fault him for doing that.

I always get a kick out of fans posting as if they’re in panic mode and trying to figure out how to replace a player.

RELAX fella’s!!! News flash...there’s nothing to worry about and there’s no need for nameless fans racking their brains trying to solve something that’s as far away as Chinese economic policy.

Oh ye of little faith

I'm worried, where will we find another player to always be 15 yards deep from the play?

*I'm joking of course, I know nothing about proper safety play.

If we get #6, I'm good with whoever wants to retiring. Not that I want any of them to, but 9 Super Bowls with 6 wins in 18 years would be momentous enough for me to shrug off anyone moving on.
Amen brother!! I’m at the point I’d be fine with no more Super Bowls for ten years.

Some members may not agree, but I can guarantee you those fans weren’t around in the 60’s and 70’s cheering the Patriots on

Gronk and McCourty, two Patriots HOFers who while great are at this point overpaid/huge cap hits, both going out on top with 3 rings and spending their whole career with Pats?

Sounds like a win/win to me

That's a combined $20m+ in cap-room for next year...
Well that’s not pessimistic Pete!

Change your name to Realistic Pete

I think that the FS class this year is a good one, so it wouldn't hurt too much if McCourty left. Setting up for the future by making a run at one of the top guys in FA (Collins, Thomas, Mathieu - I can't remember if Mathieu got extended or not) would set us up well for the future and on what should be a similar cap number as McCourty would have.

Not really

"I'm just trying to enjoy this season and enjoy these last few days with these guys."

Defiantly didn't expect him to say this but...If he's ready to move on...he will

Agreed. The way he said it made it seem like he could retire. Very unexpected.

Jason came over halfway through the interview. The whole thing was great. You can see the love between those two guys. Actually made me feel slightly more confident about this game Sunday for some reason.

What was the question that led to that answer?

What was the question that led to that answer?

It was pretty direct. “There’s been some talk that you’d retire if you won Sunday. Will this be your last game”

Or something like that.

Win the Super Bowl with his mum.

Harmon is ready to play full time FS if needed, he's a decent ballhawk

These guys as in team personnel changes from year to year is how I take that.

I don't worry too much about who we lose ... it's mostly a game of youth anyways.
As long as Belichick is here we will be competitive from year to year.

I'd be fine having Harmon playing McCourty's spot and get those snaps. The question is who gets his snaps?

Good, frees up cap money for us to bring in Dez and right all the wrong that has been done.

Let's stop with the whole "No DMac, no problem" kind of stuff.

How many snaps did Harmon have in the AFCCG?
How many snaps did DMac have in the AFCCG?

Here's the clip, so you can see the context and tone.
