That is the sort of play where the referee could have - and should have - awarded a touchdown.Tomlin coming on the field and trying to trip a returner.
It was a bad no-call. You cannot set a precedent like this. The Saints still has numerous opportunities to win the game.
I've wondered this myself.... one of the potential situations I came up with was remember earlier in the season when the Steelers kept going offsides to block a kick when there was 0:00 on the clock? Suppose one of those plays a Steeler deliberately took the kicker out at his knees, seriously injuring him. I have to wonder what the NFL would do in that case.Sincere question.... Can you think of a valid situation where this could be reasonably applied?
right, but they wouldn't really "miss" that call if he made contactTomlin coming on the field and trying to trip a returner.
Nah. Not like this. Have you seen the endzone angle? It is so much more violent. It literally changed the outcome of the game.
The whole “they had plenty of other opportunities to win” is the exact reason things like this happen. They know fans and media will parrot that message.
Or a similar play by a Pats fan 57 years ago.The “12th man” for Bama half a century ago coming off the bench and making a tackle would be the kind of unfair act that triggers this rule.
Not for a terrible ref call.
There is another horrible call which is getting no attention today: The blatant face mask on Goff which made the Rams settle for 3 instead of having 1st and goal on the 2 yard line.Nah. Lol. After SB49 one his callers suggested Belichick hacked into the Seahawks' headsets and "Photoshopped" the call for the pass play Butler intercepted.

Not a chance this gets invoked for this situation. Goodell would destroy the league if he was stupid enough to do it.

If you are going to have the Commissioner step in to erase one atrocious non-call, then why shouldn't he reverse another atrocious non-call?
You didn't answer my question. Saints got away with a blatant face mask on Goff a couple minutes earlier. So why should the Commissioner reverse one game-altering bad call made on the field but not the other game-altering bad call made a little bit earlier?Again, this literally (assuming a 20 yard FG is made) would have sent the Saints to the SB. Plus the headshot, player safety and all. That DB came in like a rocket and launched into the reciever. Not only a bad call PI wise, but a viscous illegal hit. It wasn’t missed. It was seen by the entire world.

And a facemask doesn't involve player safety??? Have you ever had your head forcibly turned around 180 degrees while running in the opposite direction?Because this involved a shot to the head. That’s player safety.
