Strong case for both. I would receive, for many of the reasons listed above. But also, if we execute a great opening drive, it could make Mahommes uneasy. Being a young guy I don't want his confidence/momentum to snowball early in this game.

At home im ok with taking the ball and making a statement, On the road id kick.

At home we have seen some great opening drives, not so much on the road. I would bet against a score on our opening possession before id bet on a score. Crowd is gonna be on fire at the start, you really dont wanna recieve first and immediately punt like in 2015 at denver. Rather have the ball coming out of the half after we have had time to adjust.

I don’t anticipate a shootout given the conditions. Play the smart game in trying to hold the ball last in half 1 and give yourself an extra possession. This is the biggest game of maholmes career by a mile. 2nd round vs the dolts is nowhere near afcc against the patriots. Give him the ball to start imo and put the pressure on him to score first.

Definitely receive if we win the toss. It would 1) quiet down the crowd right away, 2) neutralize the Chiefs ability to get off to a fast start.

Chiefs are one of the best fast-starting offense in the first half. They tend to fizzle in the 2nd half.

Strong argument for both. Either one will seem like the right answer if we go out and execute and both will seem like the wrong one if we don't. I have to go with kick though. Getting that ball after half could turn out to be huge rather we are up or down going into it. I don't wanna give that KC offense a chance to double dip us.

Recieve. If you don’t score, fake punt, if you scored, on side kick, don’t give them the ball!

Kick it for sure. Don’t let the crowd get into it early and try to take them out of it a bit with a 3 and out. Try to get a score before the half and another one after the half.

Kick. When you’re in a notoriously loud stadium in the playoffs, the loudest it will ever be is on that first drive. Let them settle a bit before Brady has to start making calls.

Plus, it’s better to give than receive.

Differ. If we take the ball and go three and out that crowd will be out of control. And then if the Chiefs subsequently score and we have to now play from behind look out.

Reading the replies, sounds like either works well when everything unfolds in a perfect hypothetical.

Nah, the crowd goes nuts when the home team plays defense. To keep ‘em quiet you kick.

I think he's operating off of the assumption that the Pats will drive right down the field on offense.

Patriots win the coin toss on Sunday, what do you want them to do?

As far as most recent history road AFC Championship Game history:

2013 Denver: Received First (Punted after 3-and-out) [Lost Toss]
2015 Denver: Received First (Punted after 5 plays) [Won Toss]
Just score more than them

If we take the ball to start the game then we absolutely HAVE to get points out of that drive, otherwise it’ll backfire. Like, if we hit a 4th and one anywhere near midfield I think we need to go for it.

Thanks, Captain Obvious. :D

He should’ve been the first to come to mind.

Someone called for a Captain?

I think they will likely receive or the chiefs will defer.

Defer. You set up the potential for a "double dip" at the end of the half, and beginning of the 3rd quarter. Imagine going into halftime with a 28-21 lead, and knowing you get the ball to start the 3rd. You get the opportunity to really put them in a hole. Also, I want the defense to go out there and set the tone. And if the Pats are down 28-21 at half, it's reassuring knowing you get the ball to start the 3rd quarter.
