AFC Championship: We are on to Kansas City!

I’m not sure who could be on Hill, but I’d be interested to see how JJones goes against him.
I had a nightmare of this exact thing. I know JJ is our fastest CB but I definitely don't want our #4 CB on the most explosive WR in the game - even with help.

Because if you miss him he is gone and it will more often than not result in a big play.

Well, if you are going to miss him before he has the ball what makes you think you can catch him with the ball?

EDIT: The point is to not let him run around and get open while Mahomes is scrambling waiting for him to get open.

I keep seeing references to TB12's playoff stats the past few years, after turning 35 years old. Obviously, even though we lost the SB, he lit up the Eagles. My question is, has there been a defense during that stretch they keep referencing as weak as KC's? Because you know TB12 and McDaniels are bringing the kitchen sink.
I think this kc defense has more talent than people realize. They have some scary players and have been missing pieces all year

I can just see it happening, I’d honesty like us to play press against Hill. Maybe even Jackson on him and just play physical on him.

Chiefs have so many weapons. If you take away hill, they can find kelce over the middle. We dialed up some coverages that confused mahomes in the first half of the last game because he threw 2 picks but he completely shook it off in the second half. Chiefs scored 31 points and almost came back. Our defense gave up 40 points and the chiefs had 8 yards per play. That’s horrendous defense. Even though we won the game it was an ugly game. I think we can confuse him by faking a blitz and playing cover 3.

The Chiefs home defense is being talked about by media/analysts & rightfully so as the numbers are vastly superior. However:

SF
JAX
CIN
DEN
ARZ
BAL
LAC
OAK

IND

How many of those teams are an embarrassment to the forward pass, half?

Because usually catching the ball involves 1-2 seconds of very predictable movement. Tight coverage doesn't only mean every pass is a PBU but minimizing YACs.

And if you miss the jam/chip/whatever he not only has a free release but you are beaten immediately. So even if you are in some kind of bracket coverage and are only responsible for the underneath stuff there is a good chance you are screwed already.

I hope our LBs are disciplined enough to not bite on a play fake as bad as the colts LBs did

See this is where our opinions differ completely. I think the KC game was the best performance of our defense in the regular season relative to what they were facing. They kept everyone mostly in check except for two broken plays and then the short fields caused by ST ineptitude and the offense turning the ball over.

If they can replicate the same level of success then there is no question that we will win the game.

I’d like to think they slowed the chiefs down in the first half to the point where there was some room for error in the second. I think we have some room to improve on from the first game. Also it’s worth mentioning that Kansas City isn’t high altitude like Denver is. I think the altitude made it harder to get off to fast start. It certainly was a factor

Code:
Team Rank (Yards) Rank (Points)
SF 16 21
JAX 27 31
CIN 26 17
DEN 19 24
ARZ 32 32
BAL 9 13
LAC 11 6 (LOSS!)
OAK 28 23
IND 7 5

Pats were 5th in yards and 4th in points.

with the cold weather, kickoffs are going to be huge with hill as the returner.

I hope KC gets overconfident being at home, that will give us a leg up because in that case we can surprise em

The conservative approach doesn't seem to have worked real well so far. I think you need to try something different. He is a unique weapon. 1,479 yards (4th), 17 ypc (5th) and 12 TDs (3rd).

Side note: Josh Gordon was 2nd in ypc. Too bad Tom can't throw the deep ball.

We've gotta get physical with KC receivers, especially Kelce and Hill. Combine that with the biting cold and it could be a tough day for those guys.

Throw that off and things will be looking good for us.

In 2015 and 2013 with Denver, I didn’t think we really had a chance because of a number of reasons. In 2013 it was slowing down the Denver offense and I wasn’t confident we could do that and our offense didn’t have the weapons to keep up with Denver. In 2015 it was the fact that our offensive line wasn’t healthy and we kept getting mauled at the LOS. The Denver d line was in the backfield on every other play and plus the altitude. If we lose it would probably look like 2013.
