I don’t see how the Stealers eat the dead money.

In a vacuum that doesn't include his ego or his contract, absolutely. Even disregarding the ego, though, I would not want him on his current contract. No WR playing right now is worth the cap percentage that the Steelers are currently tying up in him, and with him now on the wrong side of 30 I don't see that contract looking any better as it ages even with the cap increasing.

my first response was no, then I realized how pissed off the Stealer fans would be?

That said it will never happen.

Yes, the answer is of course I would want Antonio Brown on the Patriots. This thread though, my oh my. The pearl-clutching is good right now, and emotions running high over something that has about a 1% chance of happening is also good.

OK..the Pats sign him. Almost positive his first season here would be vintage AB. Then, when he wins it all (probably) he mouths off for more money and *presto*...hello Arizona. Quid pro quo...I wouldn't mind....most fans would sprain their brains over his departure though.

Hey man, he got skills, would love to see him in a Patriots uniform, anyone that says no obviously doesn’t take in account that the guy is a game changer on the field.

Love the player. Hate the cap number. Good WR's are just too available for a quarter of that sum. That being said, I'd do $10MM for AB, but that isn't happening in any reality I can think of.

Brown's salaries:

2019 (age 31) .. $12.625M
2020 (age 32) .. $11.300M
2021 (age 33) .. $12.500M

TOTAL = $36.425M .. $12.14 AAV
You’re not going to get any better than this for a player of Brown’s talent. His salary is pretty reasonable if traded before the 5th day of the league year on 3-17 (as Miguel notes) when his roster bonus is due.

That said, no way that PIT would entertain any thoughts of trading him to NE.

Why aren’t teams able to transfer their multi-year spread signing bonuses to other teams in the event of a trade? I get that they’ve “already paid” the bonus in year one and are theoretically bound to it, but if another team is willing to assume the entire contract, including the current and future obligations arising from the sign-on, what is the reasoning behind not allowing a straight up contract transfer? Could teams manipulate it? Because from a CBA/players union standpoint, the player is given no additional risk and continues with the same deal.

Seems like a little biatch, no thanks.

Actually you aren't off on his cap. $12mm is pretty reasonable, though it's hard for me to fathom that I just said that. ;). I guess everything is relative these days of $190MM salary caps.

Now all we have to do is how to create a reality where the Steelers would trade him here. Where he would WANT to come here, and where BB would be willing to not only pay a WR that much of his cap PLUS give up draft picks as well. AND where one of those teams with a $100 in cap space and the need to make a splash with their fans wouldn't out bid us.

I doubt anyone will get him, but he's a WR and unfortunately most fans think their team is just a WR away from a Superbowl.

I have a feeling that the Steelers will have their fair share of suitors willing to part with something like a first + third.

I think we’ll see a high round pick drafted at WR this year, as well as the usual type of guys brought in for TC spots, but boy would it be nice to have a game changer like Brown. Of course, who knows how he’d affect team chemistry.

I think highISH would be more likely, say one of the 3 third rounders or the last 2nd. The need to retool the DL or get that speed LB we so desperately need (assuming Obi isn't used there) We need our top 2 picks for this purpose. FA imo, is the better place to immediately upgrade that area. Not with a star, but a quality B FA type.

Fact is he's better than any wideout on this team. Question is why wouldn't you want him.

He could cause similar issues in a locker room known for weeding those character concerns out quickly.

How long have you been a pats fan? How many that come in do not by in to the Patriot way? Come on bruh

It's like, banging a really high end escort w/o a condom. You know it's a bad choice, you know you'll regret it but maaaaan in the moment it sure is fun.

I've heard. From friends. Friends I pray for. You don't know them, they're from another message board. In Canada.

I believe you, because I'm fairly sure that "high end escort" and "escort fnord could get" are mutually exclusive.

And they’re generally gone fairly quickly.

When you take on a bigger contract like Brown’s AND cough up high round picks (almost never happens here), you tend to be more cautious.
