Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

I thought the reason they traded Cooks was to use that draft capital for a guy like Calvin Ridley, but it didn't happen. For the short term, that trade is looking like a mistake.
I too, thought that the trade was based on the idea that they’d be replacing the position with a high round draft pick like Ridley or Gallop. They went in a different direction, focusing on 2019 and the future by stockpiling picks. Hopefully, there will be some decent WR options in April.

Thanks Kraft
Colin Cowherd has been saying for awhile and brought it back up recently that BB had tried to actually trade Brady. Cowherd has some pretty reliable sources as he did with the Aaron Rodgers situation and he turned out to be right.

Hopefully Wynn makes us forget about Ridley next year.

We all knew, but hope he, Gordon, didn't fall off the wagon for his own sake and lets face it to help the Pats at WR.

Now comes the day of reckoning.

Gordon has a long struggle ahead of him. Conquering this sickness is extremely difficult especially him. I can only wish him the best overcoming the demons. As for football for him, well that's over so that pressure is lifted.

BB has foresight.

Dorsett has looked good in the limited time he’s been out on the field, so I still have hope. Good luck to Josh.

Given Gordon's history, that's been terrible use of Dorsett, since week 5.

anyway a pity ...really a pity ... I believed and believed and hoping for his success in Foxboro... unfortunately it went like this ...very very sad...i wish him as a human all the best and we wiss a key WR for sure...till now he playied so well and now that we are in the final run loose him is very very tough...bad day for sure

What a ****ty past two weeks for us Pats fans. Hopefully we get a decisive W on Sunday and gain momentum for the playoff party

I think it's tough to argue that Dorsett's snap count should have been higher, simply because he had ample opportunity to earn a larger role and didn't seize it. At the end of the day, you've gotta play the guys who give you the best chance to win, and for as long as Gordon was around that wasn't Dorsett. To the extent that it now is, that's more an indication of how desperate the Pats are and how weak the WR corps is than any real merit on Dorsett's part, and I find it hard to believe that Dorsett would be in a significantly better position to replace Gordon if he was getting more snaps from weeks 6 onward.

I don't think it's tough at all. How did he do so much less than Hogan in the first five weeks, particularly given just how drastically his snaps were cut? It's one thing to cut back on his role. It's another to practically bench him for most games after that 5th one.

I don't think you can put the onus entirely on Dorsett with the 'seize it' comment.

Brady certainly didn't find him when he was open many times. That could be a number of factors, but fair's fair. I was really excited for Dorsett's development until we brought in Gordon and he became the odd man out. It's a shame Gordon couldn't overcome his sickness.

On top of my conspiracy theory from earlier. I wonder when the league ordered him tested? Kinda right after he played the game where we can’t get the pick back?

There were never any circumstances under which the Pats were going to get the 5th-rounder back.

AFAIK, Gordon was being tested very often, both regularly and randomly. The conditions of his reinstatement agreement were very strict, and included a ban on alcohol, too, AFAIK. IOW, a sip of beer could have done him in, same as a blunt.

Yup, and apparently if you disagree you're a fairweather fan.

Which is a really weird perspective. Frankly, to anyone who's incapable of separating their belief that a team can win the Super Bowl from supporting that team, I'd suggest that makes them a fairweather fan pretty much by definition. The Patriots sucked when I became a fan, and when the day inevitably comes that they suck again--even if it's as soon as next season--I'll remain a fan. The prospect of the Pats sucking is not any kind of existential threat to my fandom, because being a fan of them has never been contingent on them being good in the first place.

Sorry.

I still don't understand how thinking that there's still some possibility that the Pats will get to the SB and even win it makes one deserving of the epithet "a fairweather fan". I mean, I think that, but I'm also okay with it if they don't.

The day after this last SB, I was among the first to say, "We're on to 2018", but so were a whole bunch of the people who you seem to be attacking for thinking that the Pats still have a chance this season.

Seriously, I'm having a really difficult time following your logic on this.

Hopefully Gordon gets his life together.
On the other hand, why does the NFL drug test for non-ped's? Seems like a petty thing to do. If you are not harming anybody, what is the issue?

I think that ship has sailed, to the point that I don't think Gordon smoking himself out of the league will have any bearing at all on how the Pats value Hogan. They're not going to overpay for a WR3-at-best, no matter what else they do or don't have at the position. At least that's what I think/hope, based on what they've done in the past.

At most I could see them being more amenable to giving him a one-year deal to help set a baseline that whoever they bring in can hopefully surpass, but I doubt he'd accept a contract like that anyway so that's probably a moot point.

Hogan is hitting the 2018 cap for $3.28M. He's already being paid like a #3 WR. He turns 31 next October.

I’m cool with it as well if they don’t make it. There’s been a lot of years where they didn’t. I’m still here waiting for late summer
