I just think the risk/reward wasn't worth it. That play could have gone badly with a botched snap and ended up a fumble.
If you want an outside run, give it to Patterson. That play is literally why he's on the roster. He'll get you the half a yard and might get you more. A pass there with their secondary depleted is fine too. Your worst runner on a trick direct snap out of shotgun just isn't a good playcall in that situation. Honestly may have been a good call had they gotten the 1st and 10 though.
I am not defending the play call but am just annoyed by the overreaction to it. 1-2 bad playcalls and the trolls that want to get rid of one of the best play designers in the league and most probably replace it with the dead corpse of Charlie Weis because like 15 years ago he did something in a totally different era of the league.
