Thursday Night Football: Vikings vs Rams

Cooks is elite. Bad trade for New England
As much as I disliked Belichick's off-season, the Cooks trade was good. And necessary.

He's an elite deep threat, but not quite an elite WR that's worth more than $11-12M.

Maybe he would've impressed more in other areas if he had a 2nd season here.

The league is all about pass rush and offense right now. The Pats have no pass rush. That's why they lost in February and will struggle this year. Watch the damn games. Rams have it all. Not too many teams do.

What?!? Philly's D got utterly embarrassed in the SB. Brady threw deep all game long, with little run support, and still got 505 yards while playing from behind. Philly's line has free reign to try a pin their ears backs to rush the pass and still couldn't stop a damn thing until the fumble. That's atrocious. Oh, and their D didn't have the excuse of unexpectedly benching a Malcolm Butler, either.

Surviving a shootout is not a testament to "having it all" on D.

Pats HAD NO PASS RUSH. Eagles had a strip sack. That was the difference in the game.

I understand why they traded Cooks, but I sure do miss how much helped the offense. Hopefully Gordon can help as a legitimate deep threat

Too early in the season to determine anything, but safe to say Rams are head and shoulders above every team right now.

Why did they trade Cooks?

I believe the combination of the Mccourtys, Hightower and Duane Allen have cap figure of close to $30 million. Are any of them quality players at this point in their career? We're worried about overpaying a quality just turned 25 yr old WR who knows our system, and we are giving those bums $30 million?

Devin McCourty's cap hit this year is roughly $12 million. I would rather have Cooks. At this point in McCourty's career he's utterly replaceable.

Were you all for cutting McCourty and Hightower early in the off-season? Because otherwise, you're using their poor starts to the season as "proof" it was the obvious choice all along.

If we go with the assumption that they were going to maintain their standard of play, you're suggestion is that we should have released two of our team captains so we could pay Cooks twice as much as Edelman.

I'm saying why are we only worried about overpaying the young guys that have quality play ahead of them.

I chuckle at the team captains thing. Matt Slater is a team captain and he's meaningless.

McCourty signed his contract years ago when he was young and had quality play ahead of him. And while there were some concerns with Hightower and injuries, I don't recall his re-signing last off-season being seen as a negative.

Now, if back in March, all three of these guys were free agents and we chose to pay the same amounts to McCourty and Hightower and still traded Cooks, I'd definitely be on the side saying it was a bad decision.

Would you rather have a 25 yr old Cooks making twice as much a 31 yr old Edelman or a 31 yr old McCourty making 3 times as much as a 27 yr old Harmon.

My point is you're always overpaying someone. Why are we only worried about the young guys getting overpaid?

Rams kinda good.. wow. Still preseason tho..

Well, you said it yourself, they're both overpaid. The difference is that one guy is in the back end of his contract and the other guy is overpaid in year 1 of his deal. That's how you end up with cap problems quickly.

It would be great if Cooks is still here. But we landed a 1st round pick for a guy in the last year of his deal. That isn't something that happens all the time in the NFL, and that can't be treated as if we dumped a 25 year old for a late rounder.
