I don't like it. But he is better than nothing.
WTH was BB doing all offseason? He should have addressed WR in the offseason.
And he didn't do enough with the defense, IMHO.

There is a school of thought that subscribes to the theory that addiction is not a disease but, rather, is evidence of a weakness in character. Therefore, addicts are undeserving of sympathy and/or empathy and are responsible for their conditions. It's not a theory to which I subscribe, but many do.
I'm not an MD or have a PhD so I cannot intelligently comment on why people become addicts. Could be chemical imbalance or could be a tick in their developed behavior. Either way I'm not going to pass judgement on the guy. All I want is for him to do well here and stay clean. If he can kick this thing permanently then hes won.

Something tells me he has a pretty good football IQ. I mean, I don't think you can perform at an elite level in the NFL without having an above average football brain.
I think he's got an above average IQ, period. He's pretty eloquent. I'm gaining confidence in his ability to grasp the playbook as far as his mental aptitude is concerned. The question mark is whether he can handle the pressure.

Does the team activate him this weekend and try to ease him in with Brady against an inept Detroit team or do they roll with what they have and give him another week to digest the playbook? Personally, I would throw him in for maybe 20-25% of the snaps and keep his route concepts limited. Lets him develop the timing with Brady in real game action against a team we should beat the brakes off of anyway.

Even for a high IQ player Pats" playbook seems to be a challenge. So expectations for Gordon against Lions should be very moderate.Giving him a few actions sounds fair enough.Let him understand he is in a pro team offering him last chance to be somebody in the league not in a circus called Browns,

Did not know where to line up in the Super Bowl and caused a penalty.

Personally I highly doubt we see him this weekend unless they just ease a few plays in there for him. Besides Woodhead, can’t think of a Patriot player who was acquired and had any significant impact that same week?

Can you think of another offensive player they've acquired in-season that was a talent of this caliber, though?

Ocho might be an outlier.

Not sure where you are going with AH. He grasped the offense quickly here.

If it was easy, anyone could do it... I suspect many of us would have struggled to address the issues you bring up. There are a finite amount of ressources : cap-money-talent-picks.

I don't understand why so many on here talk like it's an easy job to become a perenial contender.

Here is a challenge : all the critics please state the moves you would have made to better the Patriots. Go.

I'll tell ya why. Our buddy Andy is the exception as he's has football reasons (wont learn the playbook fast enough, taking opportunities away from current players which will ****** their development, etc) . Those are reasonable arguments. I heard Nink basically say this place will put too much pressure on Josh and in his frame of mind might not be ready for the 24/7 grind on being a player on this team.

Everyone else who is against this is either hung up on stupid late round draft picks and even though they won't admit it, don't want to root for an addict. They want to sit on their high horse and be able to pass judgement on how this team should win ballgames. They are the same people who were against Moss, Haynesworth, Britt, Floyd, etc.

Over dramatizing are we?

I was not opposed to Moss, Floyd, Haynesworth or Britt and took a wait and see approach. Quite frankly I was hoping for BB to turn lumps of coal into diamonds.

Gordon is nothing like those guys. Next positive test and he out of the NFL for good. So, better baby sit him around the clock because he does not care enough about the game to stick on a Browns team. Fans and a city were behind him all the way.

Blaming everyone else for being judgmental and lacking empathy is the reason why Gordon is that way he is. Somebody elses fault. The Browns fault.

Considering DET has Slay and some decent CBs who are capable of shutting down our WRs I'd throw him out there. They are also dealing with a coach that knows our offense very well (and Josh knows their D).

All the more reason to throw a complete unknown like Josh in the mix and mess up Fat Matt's defensive gameplan.

No Im not because I think those are the reasons. People on this board are adverse to giving up draft picks and don't want drunks and druggies on this team. Ive seen their posts.

Nobody mention that pot is legal in MA. Tell him it is illegal!

The Pats have made 36 transactions with WRs over the past six months - six per month; more than one per week.

This List Of Patriots Roster Moves At Wide Receiver Will Make Your Head Spin

Edelman's suspension wasn't announced until after the draft.
Britt was already mulling over a contract extension offer from the Pats when he hurt his hammy in June.
Matthews wasn't injured until a week into Camp.

On defense, the Pats traded for a young Nose Tackle and an accomplished veteran CB, and signed an accomplished veteran DE. They got two more DEs back who were on IR last season. The Pats also spent four draft picks on defenders, and signed five defensive UDFAs. Three of those draft picks made the roster (including one starting LB), plus one of the UDFAs.

That's a school of thought? I thought that was just a product of ignorance?
Well of course that is an ignorant belief about addiction and I doubt you can find anyone under 80 who would agree with it.
There is however a difference between addiction and drug/alcohol abuse.
When I was college age drinking to excess every weekend was extremely common. Now some of those people were alcoholics but most were doing it for social/recreational/enjoyment purposes.
Eventually real life kicks in and you move beyond that bit many people still want to make their social life, revolving around drinking, their focal point. I’ve seen people get themselves into a lot of trouble because they lacked the maturity to settle down.
With the drinking age at 21 this seems to be less of an issue however weed use increase accordingly and creates the same problems.
Marijuana is not addictive so it’s not an issue of addiction it’s an issue of choice. Unfortunately legalizing it moves in the opposite direction of raising the drinking age and weed use among teenagers is at epidemic levels which is freightening because they are at the age where their brain, and values are still developing and that maturity is at stake.

We can’t chalk up josh Gordon destroying his career by smoking weed to addiction because weed is not addictive, it’s a choice.

It is, in fact, a school of thought. As I clearly stated, it's not mine.

Not being a wise guy, I really didn't know it was a school of thought. Just sounded like the 1950s to me.
