It's calculated just based on how close you were to each teams individual score. So who wins doesn't matter, just how many points off you were from the Patriots score + how far you were off from the Texans score.

Agreed. I pride myself on (usually) being in the top 20 by the end of the season, although I never manage to find out (or maybe remember) where exactly I have ended up over the years!
