Missing that FG in OT was so Cleveland. Best-case scenario for the Pats, though. Two conference opponents denied a win.

It was pouring when they tried that last field goal. The fact that the browns hung in there to tie it is a win for them.

I was with the family today for a birthday, so never got to visit the GDT... Were our posters in midseason form?

I thought the O looked good for the first half. Only 6 points after the half is disappointing. ST's was poor. D was ok. We got the win and that's what counts

I'm really looking forward to finding out if the problem was schematic or just poor play. Romo seemed to think it was the former.

As to Shelton, most of those big gains were being run off tackle. I don't think you can ask your NT to stop plays out there. Usually you are looking for your LB's to make plays out there.

Bottom line - there is too much we don't know about the schemes, personnel, and why those runs were so effective. But it WILL make for a great discussion when the film thread comes out and some of those things become clearer.

The game plan was blatantly concentrated on Watson and Hopkins. They did very little before Pats started playing the clock game (and awarded two fumbles to HOU in the process). They didn't care too much about little Miller running around in the middle of the field.

Of course BB will not be happy with giving up 170 rushing yards . but he will be happy with only 1 rushing TD, only 40 rush yds for Watson while keeping him in the pocket, dropping 7 in coverage most of the time making his QBR 17.8 (fwiw)
__

Next game will be the true measure of Pats run D (Fournette or no Fournette) .and Im looking forward to see the expected progress in that area..

This is what's so Cleveland: I saw this posted elsewhere. The Browns were +5 in takeaways today. Since the Browns returned to the NFL, teams with a turnover margin of +5 or better in a game are 132-4-1. The Browns are responsible for two of those losses and the tie.

I enjoyed sending this to my Cleveland in-laws :)

Waddle got embarrassed by JJ Watt @ RT....

True, but Waddle is a mediocre tackle, and Watt is a hall-of-famer. Watt SHOULD win that battle more often than not. It also didn't help Waddle that on Watt's sack, he was CLEARLY offsides - got a major jump on the snap and was past Waddle before Waddle was basically even able to come out of his stance...but the refs incredibly let that one go for some reason. If he's gonna get THAT kind of help from the refs....holy cow.

The biggest stat today? 1-0.

Gronk fumble is a non issue. Mistakes happen. Also, its week one so I didnt expect perfection. Man, 2018 and still a fearsome team.

Yeah the three turnovers were basically all freak things.

Brady's INT was a tipped ball that went right to the DB. Nice play by them but really, that's pretty lucky.

Gronk's fumble was again a nice play by the Texans but Gronk NEVER fumbles so that's a very freak thing.

The botched punt return happens, but shouldn't really ever happen so you can't really "game plan" for that.

And all three were big plays.

- The INT led to three points for Houston.
- The Gronk fumble came as the Pats were driving, costing them a scoring chance.
- The fumbled punt led to a touchdown for Houston.

Tony Corrente is RETIRED. Morelli was out there today. I was THERE and SAW him try to screw us.

BTW Mr. Gosling...have at it..rip and tear the team sideways...after all, YOU don't see why it shouldn't be a goddamned Felger show every goddamned day in here
Dude I haven't even posted in this thread up until I replied to you. Take a nap...

I don't see how people complain every day about whether we are too negative or homers..it's the nature of fanhood. Get over it already

The first one is over with a win. I didn't thnkt that Gronk made a catch just before the end of the first half. OBrain couldn't call for a review because inside 2 minutes. Pats got the next play off before the NY review. If OBrain calls a time out it give the Pats free time to develop a scoring chance. In between a rock and a hard place. This catch if called no catch could have changed the outcome.

Glad Pats won.

Defiant to the end!

They don't like the team. Except Shank. He doesn't like sports at all.
Gaspar is a Professional Punk...Trolin is a Boston-hating Outsider...and who the FECK are Scott Thurston & Nora Princiotti?!? Wasn't she on That 70s Show?

Shaughnessy loves ALL sports, except for the one he's currently writing about. That's why every Patriots column is packed with Red Sox analogies, every Red Sox column with Celtics references, every Celtics article with Bruins....

September is always the worst month for the Patriots. And by that I mean a worst case scenario of 2-2 to start.

It wasn't perfect, obviously, but this win had me feeling pretty good. We were sloppy and yet I never once doubted that we would win after going up 7-0.

Our defense is better than last year. And we'll be peachy on offense once Edelman's back and hopefully Michel too. Dorsett being productive out there was reassuring as well.

And Run defense was horrible
The focus in the 2nd 1/2 was to make Watson throw. The run D was sacrificed

Yeah looked like a lighter box with Butler that was in at the time. I've only been around 2 days, Is Shelton supposed to be a run stuffer? Either way it would have been just him as the big guy on the field when the texans were getting those easy runs. So not too concerned about it.
