The stadium is not in Boston, so its NEP! same with the other “football” team..

I'm far too used to New England Patriots to have it changed but Boston Patriots sounds pretty good so I wouldn't be heartbroken if it was changed back. I agree with everyone in 1971 that the Bay State Patriots sounds awful though.
Most of the nation today would like the B.S., as in what that typically stands for.

As far as the geographical name change, Sullivan had every right and was justifiably pissed.

Bob Kraft was in exactly the same position as Billy Sullivan...

...until Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell stepped in-just in time.

If Boston had allowed Kraft to build a stadium in Boston then this would be a legit poll. We all know how that played out.

I enjoyed reading about the possible name change to "Bay State Patriots". And them deciding instead to go with New England Patriots. They were afraid people would call them the B.S. Patriots. Who knew, the league's fans (of other teams) would be calling them much worse names than B.S. (such if the weight of the crown of winners).

I like the New England name, I like that it covers the whole region, instead of ONE city, it's kinda unique, so I always liked that.

such is the weight of ass kickers whom the league hates; yeah it's been going on since the 70's

We beat a ton of teams in the four decades prior to this century, and the NFL has tried to dismiss all of them

I bet in the future this dynasty will be Rarely talked about if ever/dismissed should we fall into irrelevance.

It will always be talked about in New England with reverence, and with animosity everywhere else....forever.....

Gotta stay "New England," if for no other reason than that I have too much fun calling the Jets and Giants the "New Jersey Jets/Giants."

If they move the stadium to Boston, they can change the name. But, for now, there is a regional pride in this team that is just too great to dis.

New England, the team isn't in Boston and New England draws in a larger market

Carolina Panthers represent a large area as well without representing just a specific city.

Being inclusive makes much more sense.

New England Patriots
Michigan Lions
Illinois Bears
Wisconsin Packers
Maryland Ravens
South Florida Dolphins
Carolina Panthers
Sorta part of Ohio Browns
Most of the Central and Mountain Time Zones Cowboys
Jacksonville Jaguars

And so forth...

New England.

But if NH somehow managed to finagle its own NFL team I'd love an NFL New Hampshire/Mass rivalry

They need to build a stadium with a retractable roof near the waterfront, and then we can have a National League baseball team again, and maybe an NFC NFL team, which I guarantee will not have any of the league corrupt bias attacking it.

What name do or did you prefer? And if you were around back then how did you feel about the name change from Boston Patriots to New England Patriots? I read that supposedly in 1971 they were called the Bay State Patriots or were going to be called that but wasn't received well.
