Robert Williams III - explosive athletic shot blocker!!! Did not expect this guy to fall to us. This might be the steal of the draft.

Strengths
Williams is a bouncy and strong athlete who can explode off the floor for dunks and is a menace on the defensive end. He's got great length (7-4 wingspan), good timing and a commitment to protecting the rim. Moves his feet well with good back-peddle and lateral agility and can cover a lot of ground quickly.

Although his offensive game is raw, he shows some promise with his back to the basket moves, with good body control and a high release point on his jump-hook. His leaping ability allows him to get his shot off in the lane, even against taller defenders.
Is a solid free throw shooter for a young big man.

Moves without the ball well and does a good job of changing speeds to get open for the pass. Is always a threat for back door lobs and shows off his quickness on the pick and roll.

Knows his role and players within himself. Does the dirty work and plays with passion. Is an excellent offensive rebounder and keeps a lot of possessions alive for his team.

A quick leaper with excellent size/strength/agility combo.

An upside pick.

Comparisons
A longer Richaun Holmes
Antonio Davis
Marquese Chriss

Projection: lotto to mid first round pick

The comparison they were making was DeAndre Jordan.

they also said that work ethic may be an issue

In terms of what they need, he is exactly that....an athletic big....as for who, I'm hoping the veteran and coaching presence can give him some push

Brand McCoy was not drafted (7'1"/ 250) ,,,, he's another athletic big they could go round up for nothing

why did he fall? Weaknesses? I didn't follow that much college ball this past year so I don't really know that much about this class. this guy sounds like a useful player that we need in the middle

Who knows. There were concerns (that I think are somewhat overblown) about his motor. From what his coach said, he responds really well to playing against top talent, so I'd expect that plus the team culture plus Stevens to fix it. Beyond that, needs for specific teams? A lot of the teams in the middle of the round were looking for shooters.

He's not a shooter although he can certainly score around the basket. But he IS an elite shot blocker. He reminded me a little of Russell the way he can block shots while keeping them in bounds. 9.4 standing reach plus a 40 inch vertical!

Best comp for someone currently in the league seems to be Clint Capela. I'll take that.

thanks. he sounds like a great fit. at this point the Celtics just need some folks to come in a play a particular role. If they can get a knock down shooter coming of the bench they should have everything they need to make it to the finals consistently. Williams providing rim protection will be a bonus on the defensive end and another athlete that can finish inside is perfect

Saw vids of the kid on youtube he is very good with the alley opp catching inaccurate passes and dunking with 1 hand.

If he can bring that threat it will help keep D honest he can provide and offensive rebounding presence which they can really use. Matches up better with an Embid type than anyone currently on the roster.

Could be an absolute steal at 27

I wondered if Ainge would bundle draft picks and try to move up to get Bomba. But we got a player who could provide some of the same skill set and we kept the picks. Now we hope for Sac to crater this year.

Hmm issues concerning motivation, he slept through his first conferance call. The celtics had to re-schedual.

No big deal he was there @ 11am CST wonder if he was told the 11 call was EST

You think that would cut it if he was drafted by BB?

He slept through the call because they told him 10AM, but they neglected to mention they meant 10Am OUR timezone not his.

I would guess that the BB would have had someone make sure he KNEW that 11 EST was 10AM where he lived. The kid is 20 and with his family and locals at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Not exactly Len Bias

He also has knee concerns.

No, he has rumors of knee concerns, something the Cs seem to have looked into and dismissed.

Really...huh. Boston radio had me convinced that he was a candidate for whole leg replacement.

ridiculous. so he needs somebody other than himself to figure out eastern standard time? its the teams fault? lmao. the kid screwed it up. stop making excuses for him. hes a grown man. all the concerns other teams have are legit. he cant shoot threes and he cant make free throws. hes out of shape according to some reports. hes a project. I don't mind the pick because it was the 27th pick. that's when you roll the dice. but he dropped for a reason.

Bob Williams was the consensus BPA at 27, and all the good Shooters were already taken. Danny didn't out-think himself this time.

A bit disappointed that he didn't succeed in buying a 2nd-rounder to draft a Shooter, such as Gary Trent Jr at 37, Hamidou Diallo at 45 or Shake Milton at 54. He needs to somehow acquire one, with size, before the season starts.

Wow. Just came back home from a generally useless weekend in Orlando FLA, so this is the first I've heard of it.

Prediction: Danny attempts to get rid of this brain-dead sloth faster than he did with JR Giddens.

he will be around for at least a year....he's a kid doing kid like things....mom made him go back to school for 2nd year to grow up.......but he actually listens to mom, so that's a plus

freakish athleticism to go along with good size........2x defensive player of the year, so he's not lazy

I have no issues with being patient with him.......
