I just responded to the thread about Stephen Gostkowski and realized that I got nothin'. I'm counting down the days to training camp practices open to the public to get the juices flowing again. It's only six weeks away, but feels like an eternity. Help me out here.

1) [85%] Too many stories about drama in the clubhouse being circulated. This leads to WAS (Wild-*** Speculation) by the media who are mostly anti-patriot. Even the good guys think there's smoke there.

Personally, I think that's fairly normal stuff, but it doesn't usually seep out of a BB run organization. There's nothing to it until there is something to it (proven and identifiable)

2) [15%] Every SB loss sucks. Even if you aren't overly affected by it, it stinks to get that close and lose...even for fans like us who have plenty to be happy about.

Bonus, all non-football seasons are long. I've really tuned out most sports except football. I tune into the Sox maybe once every 1-2 weeks to check standings, but can't commit myself to watching games. Way better and more entertaining things to do with my time.

Because people are a bunch of suckers and fall for soap opera level made up stories that wouldn’t even mean anything if they are true.
This off season the board has turned from football fans to paparazzi

This off-season has felt particularly long. Losing the SB sucked, but in years past, there didn't seem to be as much uncertainty. We always knew Brady would be there for everything. I never thought he or Gronk would retire this year , but am realizing it may come soon. Being good for so long has almost made me forget how bad we used to be and I don't ever want to go back to that.

Worst. whoa, pump the brakes.
1. Where's the Ray Lewis option?
2. The 1990 off-season that got us Rod Rust. Just remember that one for a moment.
3. Parcells jettisoning (pun intended) us for the Jetes.
4. 1991, and the great Hugh Millen signing.

I think it might be reasonable to blame some of the off-season melodrama on Felger's pot-stirring. He gathers bits of information that might have some degree of truth (though unsubstantiated) and concocts theoretical scenarios that eventually assume lives of their own.

I feel the opposite.........I think it's exciting to not know how things are going to work out

is there a soap opera? who like who? who is talking behind who's back?

is just going to be

I enjoy my teams and do not let the real or fake media drama get in the way.

Some like to focus on the negative ... such a waste of time IMO.

How does Jets newsreel footage relate to any of this?

Worse offseasons I recall during my lifetime:

2015 - Defamegate
2013 - Murder
2008 - People forget how ****ty the "18-1" and "DrrrGate" talk was
1997 - Parcells leaving for the Jest
1993 - Team almost moved

I'll try to sum it up with bullet points:

  • The team was dealing with a bunch of drama all season, continuing into the playoffs, where a normally pretty placid BB decided to mock his star QB's major hand injury.
  • Our Coach/GM made waves by trading our star backup QB for circus peanuts, a few weeks after trading our third string qb for a bust wr, leading to opening questioning on if BB was trying to blow up the team over perceived meddling by kraft(see above)
  • During the superbowl, our GOAT coach decided to bench the #cb for the duration of the game. We ended up losing the game despite the offense putting up historic numbers, because the defense played like it was completely out of sync, almost as if a key player wasn't in the lineup, after having not missing a game in three years. To this day not a single patriot staffer, or player has provided any reasoning for why Butler got zero snaps in the superbowl.
  • After the patriots imploded because of defensive decisions by BB, numerous players either jumped ship, or openly talked about how they were not happy with the patriots. For seemingly the first time players that excelled under the patriot way were openly defying it.
  • A semi-lackluster draft followed up by continued drama from the first point has resulted in non stop discussion about why there is so much dysfunction.

Is it a bad off season in terms of not being fun for the fans or a bad off season because it will produce a poorly-performing team (the same way so many teams "win" during the off season then suck)? If it's later, nobody can tell now.

If this one stings, folks are going to need ready prescriptions of thorazine when Belichick and Brady retire. Gronk could complete that trifecta.

Patriots are favored to win the Super Bowl, but not by a whole lot.
Those that lived through the lean years just continue to enjoy this run.
