Can Bentley cover though? It's frustrating watching RBs out of the backfield pick up a 3rd and long on a wheel route because our LB corps is super slow.

Him on a wheel route is not a good idea I think. Just to be clear I am judging by 5 total minutes of tape I saw on him but I don't think he has a chance to keep up with a RB or WR cutting across the short middle. His best bet would be knocking them on their butt as they make their break within 5 yards or at least hitting them to disrupt the timing.

There are ways for slower LBs to deal with speedy players but not many players can pull it off consistently.

We run a 4-2-5

Occasionally,w e need a 3rd run stuffing LB. This guy competes with Roberts for that roster spot.

Obviously, Belichick didn't like the linebackers available, and didn't want to trade up for one. [few here want to either, until after the fact]

IMHO, we got value at every pick, and helped the offense a lot (this year and in 2019). We also added a starting nickel (or at least one that can compete for that role)
==================
Belichick just didn't like our choices at LB and S. As Belichick said last year, the squad isn't at all final until we playa few games, and the defense doesn't gel until mid-season. That approach had fans apoplectic last year, until we won yet another division and yet another AFC championship.
============
The BOTTOM LINE is that there will be many acquisitions before the trade deadline, some through signing of free agents soon (or after May 3rd). some though tradesm, and some though late free agent signing of cuts from other teams.
================
Looking for upgrades
Roberts, Langi and Richards do stand out. Hoever, I suspect that other top 10 defenses (points scored) have similar quality at the bottom three roster spots. Our advantage is that Belichick is willing to sign free agents all year and is willing to trade for help/upgrades.

Just wait for him to be cut. There were rumors floating around in early March that the 'Boys were going to release him.

screw that. If a 7 gets you his rights I'd do it in a second. We could use some Edelman insurance. That's my take anyway.

That's a bit frightening when you consider the Patriots have one of the worst LB corps in the NFL.

They definitely don't have one of the worst LB groups in the league.

I would say depending on their day they are somewhere between above and below average. Most teams would fall apart totally if they lose 66% of their starters (HT and Shea) to injury in one group. Add in Branch checking out which opened the floodgates for opponents spilling into LB level and you have a good reason why it all looked so bad at times.

Now they are still slow in terms of sideline-to-sideline so teams going RPO-esque will cause matchup issues. We will see how having Duke Dawson in the slot will affect those things because last year we really missed a good slot corner on the team. We had guys who played in the slot but none of them were really good there.

The Patriots now have THREE 6th round picks and the 1st pick of the 7th round.

I can't find any website that is reporting these day 3 trades but apparently BB has been very busy while our fans have been even busier jumping off bridges due to his picks.

Bentley is competing with Roberts for the run-stuffing LB who only plays on clear running downs.

Did Rapaport really just say Josh Allen has just as much talent as Darnold?

When healthy the defense looks considerably better (and deeper) than what we had available at the SB.

Jaylen Samuels, "TE"/RB/WR/?? to the Steelers. I'm actually a bit bummed about that one. I have no idea where the Pats would've put him (NOT at TE, certainly), but he'd have been fun to watch in Camp until he got waived to the Psquad.

Practice squad will be loaded this year

And take on his current cap hit of $3.25M? Yeah, no. Think I'd rather try to sign him for less off the street.

Who the hell are u? Go harass someone else.

Still got the pole up your butt, I see. Maineman contributes more to this board than you do. Though that's not hard since about the only thing you do anymore is whine.
