Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

It’s been at least 50 pages since we talked about Butler blowing a coverage against the Jags, right? The defense is in zone, but Butler played man and left a guy uncovered in his deep third. If unable to be fixed due to illness or lack of being “locked in,” that’s the kind of thing that could keep anybody off the field.

Passive aggressive, huh. Weak sauce.

Your question isn’t clear. From what I can figure from your poor phrasing, you’re asking if your litany of excuses I’ve already debunked now make sense? Nope, still bad.
So now you are going to be douchy.

We are done.

I'll say it again- be specific. Lots of fans believe they were destroyed in the SB even though they were winning with 2min to go. It's called emotions getting the best of you. Its ok. Its happens.

So your position is regardless of any set of circumstances Malcolm either should have played?

IMO:

If Butler had struck a coach - He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

If Butler had been drunk the entire week - He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

If Butler had been sick and missed his flight, then not done great in practice - Butler should not have started, they should have seen how his replacements played, and then after not getting any stops, butler should have been put in to start the second half

If Butler had killed a man ray lewis style - He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

If Butler had just not been keyed in at practice - Butler should not have started, they should have seen how his replacements played, and then after not getting any stops, butler should have been put in during the first half

If Butler was caught watching a movie in his hotel room with his parents - Honestly this one depends on the movie. if it was something good like interstellar I say no punishment, but if he was watching like the halle berry catwomen movie, he should have been sent home.

None of this matters though, because BB said it was for football reasons. not a single VALID report mentions drugs, booze, hookers, assaults, murders. The only things we know are facts is that he missed a flight, had the flu, and didn't practice at 100%.

Do you think those reasons are reasons enough to bench him in the superbowl where he has been known to be clutch?

"for football reasons" leaves a open a door big enough to drive a freight train through.

(Hey - we've cracked 5000 posts...)

Name one with a valid source.

Name one that is worth benching someone in the Superbowl, but not worth telling Vrable about before he commits almost 60 million to Butler.

Name one that isn't listed in the things Butler says never happened, and which nobody said "he just lied"

The thread that never dies. Gotta move on. Hopefully we can get back to the big game this upcoming season. It's always hard to get back when you lose the big game. A big challenge with a lot of big names lost during the off-season.

I think it will die when something substantial comes to light, until then there will be confusion about how a guy who played 98% of the defensive snaps during the season, played zero snaps in the superbowl while the defense got torn to shreds.

Butler did not play so BB felt there was a reason worthy of doing so.

It's easy to say he was wrong but without knowing the reason how can one really say either way?

IMO:

If Butler had struck a coach - He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

Theoretically yes, but by doing so would have caused a major pre-game distraction.

If Butler had been drunk the entire week
- He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

You are saying he should have been sent home and standing on the sideline and playing. Confused?

If Butler had been sick and missed his flight, then not done great in practice
Butler should not have started, they should have seen how his replacements played, and then after not getting any stops, butler should have been put in to start the second half

Are you assuming he was 100% going into the SB?

If Butler had killed a man ray lewis style -
He should have been sent home, and not dressed, standing on the sideline, having participated in one special teams play.

Confused on this one. I think I know what you are saying..?

Honestly this one depends on the movie. if it was something good like interstellar I say no punishment, but if he was watching like the halle berry catwomen movie, he should have been sent home.

If he was watching The Shape of Water he should be shot. If he was watching Goodfellas he should have started.

I don't believe BB. No specific data. I think it was a combination of things. Problems w Cover 3, sick, matchups, lousy practices and when told he wasn't starting he freaked. To me that would justify benching him in BBs mind.

Do you think those reasons are reasons enough to bench him in the superbowl where he has been known to be clutch?

IDK I'm not BB. There may be other things that occured which justify it.

I think you missed the biggie.

Name one that is worth not putting him in after watching the defense get destroyed in the 1st half. And then still not worth telling Vrable about before he commits 60 million.

You are saying he should have been sent home and standing on the sideline and playing. Confused? I thought it was pretty clear. If he had been drunk all week he should have been sent home. He wasn't sent home. He was dressed and played a special teams snap. One special teams play.

Are you assuming he was 100% going into the SB?
I'm assuming he was sick going into the superbowl weeks, I think that's pretty clear from what i said.

Confused on this one. I think I know what you are saying..?
I'm saying it butler had killed someone he shouldn't have been on the sideline.

If he was watching The Shape of Water he should be shot. If he was watching Goodfellas he should have started.
The shape of water was a beautiful movie and you shut your mouth before i call my fishman friend

If he had freaked they wouldn't have had him suited up, And wouldn't have put him in on special teams. Butler played ZERO snaps on special teams in 2017. Butler played 98% of the defensive snaps in 2017. Butler played ZERO defensive snaps in the superbowl. Butler played ONE special teams Snaps.

Are you telling me BB who preaches about the importance of special teams, Would put a guy in who have neither practiced it, NOR performed it during the season If they have been a malcontent?

IDK I'm not BB. There may be other things that occured which justify it.

My responses in bold.

Yes.

When the other team is celebrating because a defensive player they game planned for is on the bench, And also celebrating because his replacement is a player they got rid of because he was garbage.

We know the outcome of What BB decided. Because he refused to adjust at any point in the game and put his best players on the field, He didn't put the team in the best position to win.

Whose fault is that Butler wasn’t ready to go? Some blame goes to Bill for not trying Butler for a series or two, but 80% of the blame goes to Butler for missing the team flight, etc.

The Eagles had no more inside information than we did. There’s no authority there to appeal to. The gameday thread is full of opinions that are just as informed as the Eagles were.

I am more disappointed in Bill not trading Butler last year when it became clear he was going to hit the market in 2018. This is contrary to what he normally does.

How do we know he couldn't go? BB never gave him a shot.

If you bench butler for the first half and the defense gets DESTROYED. You owe it to the team to see if butler Can spark the defense into getting a stop or two in the second half. Even if you put him in and he fails, you can take him out again and no damage was done. However if you put him in and he shuts down half the field BB looks like an idiot for not starting him.

BB would rather go down with the ship then look foolish for benching a guy for a missed flight.

Old school pride i guess.

They didn't need inside info. They knew how good the replacements were because they had CUT those replacements, and then those replacements couldn't get on the field without the starters being injured.

The Eagles coaching staff out coached the patriots
