Cooks traded to Rams for 23 overall pick

The Patriots don't make the Super Bowl without Cooks. That trade ultimately saved the season once Edelman went down.

The trade itself is brilliant. Cooks was going to command $13M+ in free agency, and there is no way we were going to pay him that money.

This team needs defense, we need pass rush, something we lacked big time! We couldn’t get a sack to save our lives in the Sb. This year picks should be to fix our defense.

I'm hoping Belichick sees a Jerod Mayo somewhere, maybe that Georgia linebacker, and packages to move up to get him.

Now B.B. drafts four s.t ers lol

Jk but I didn’t want him traded. That said, cooks sucked

He's not wrong. Anyway, the injuries definitely sucked and hindered the defense, but Philly had their fair share of guys on IR too.

He is wrong. Rookies aren't going to help the pass rush short term. Furthermore, the Pass rush wasn't bad prior to the SB. He gives ZERO credit to the Eagles O-line that was fantastic. Other than Peters, who on the Eagles O-line was on IR?

The Pats being without Butler and Jonathan Jones hurt them significantly as Rowe and Bademosi got burned for big plays. And I won't even talk about Jordan Richards being on the field because of them not having the other two and how it allowed the Eagles to make quick plaws that also nullified the pass rush..

People overlook that Paterson had 83 reception with only 112 targets over the past 2 seasons.

Kenny Britt was a thousand yard receiver in 2016.

Malcolm Mitchell could be coming back in a big was as well.

No I don't abide with comparing Cooks to Dorsett.

Let me know when he has 4 1000 yd seasons then I'll agree with you.
I didn't compare the two careers I said he could do the same job for substantially less, I also said this a month ago when the possibility of Cooks getting traded came up. $ talks

2 1st and 2 2nds...we can make moves on moves come draft time. Pats now kinda control that.

Going to miss Cooks and his speed though. Need a new speed guy.

And we are not getting OBJ

So, back to who on the practice squad is a WR that Bill likes?

Dorsett has not proven anything.

Id guess this trade is mainly about great value . and for a position that the Pats are ok.

Of course playoff/SB shortcomings are usually costly w BB (LGB last year f.e.).

The fact that Cooks couldn't show enough versatility to legitimately play in the slot after Jules went down (and Hogs later) which lead to Danny taking over as WR #1 in the playoffs - this probably made this goodbye so much easier for BB..

So many are down on Dorsett and Britt, but I think going through a full camp, with still good competition (assuming Mitchell heals) may light a fire under one of them to get on the same page with TB12 and be a solid WR4/5 option.

We must be pretty confident in a 100% recovery for Jules, I guess.

LaFell and Amendola are both gone (and Amendola is much better than anyone they have in house to replace him). Mitchell has had durability concerns. Edelman is 32 and his body is beat up.

Really think the "he's not needed" stuff is ridiculous.

The offense is going to be "hope Gronk is healthy and happy for 16-20 games" because on paper this WR group is very thin unless you're very optimistic on their health/durability. There's talent but so many questions and places where it can fall apart quickly.

The Pats' receiving corps right now is:

WR Edelman (stud)
WR Hogan (solid)
WR Mitchell (solid)*
WR Britt (solid)
WR Patterson (special teams really)
WR Dorsett (better than his numbers showed, but not as good as Cooks)
WR Hollister (JAG)
TE Gronk (all-world)
TE Allen (fine)
TE Hollister (potential)
RB White (stud receiver)
RB Burkhead (excellent receiver)

*if healthy

I don't think they're done with the WRs. But on the whole, that's an outstanding group of receivers. Not just wide receivers, but ALL players who catch the ball. I expect them to add another quality WR to this group.

But yes, like every team, it's dependent on health.

Those 12 receptions last year really make you confident he can replace a player who's never had fewer than 53 in a season, huh?

I would hope were not done with WR at the moment and use the draft to rebuild the depth lost. Question is do we look at a bigger wr in Sutton or a smaller guy like Kirk?
