NE met with Waddle - WADDLE IS HERE TO STAY

Couldn't agree more. If you have an insurance named Cannon on the right flank do not change it. Moving him to the left side is a last resort to me.Now Waddle is back, Garcia can continue his playing as a pro. Let's take some support in a draft and move on.

So, focusing on D in the draft we're going with the Tom Plays Till 45 strategy and drafting a QB in '19 or '20?

Seriously, I'd still take a quality OT if one falls to 31. Plan to take a QB in 2019.

45??? How dare you think he's done in 5 years!

10 more years and he can pass it off to son Jack Brady. Which is right around the time Bill passes the reigns to Stephen and the dynasty is renewed.

I don't think it eliminates anything of the sort.

I think it does. Cannon/Waddle are the starters at RT/LT. They back one another up in the event that the other gets injured. Tobin/Garcia (assuming he gets back into football shape/weight this season) are the third stringers. If they lose both of their third string tackles, the season is pretty much flowing down the toilet anyway. They can afford to target a tackle next season unless they really like a guy like Miller who should be available on day two.

One year deal suggests to me Waddle will be the starting left tackle. It's a deal in both sides' interests. Mitigates the risk he flops for the Patriots, while if he does well, ensures he's back on the market next year as a starting left tackle who will be looking at a long-term deal at double or triple his salary.

Croston is also a backup, and doesn't take up an additional roster spot, since he makes the team as a backup IOL (along with Karras).

Wow soo cheap room for one or 2 more decent moves.

Maybe. I'm still awaiting the "official" word from Miguel.

In any case, the Pats have done a truly remarkable job on the roster build so far, considering that they started with only $13M in cap space and then made only a handful of unremarkable, low-level cuts (so far) to free up only a few more million in cap space.

So its not 4y/24 M, not even 1y/4M for one of “the two top tackles on the market remaining“ - turns out you could have both for 4M..

This deal would further suggest BB continues to see Waddle as injury risk swing tackle. Id be surprised if they go to the season with him as elected starter (circumstances can always make him a starter of course). One starting tackle spot seems to remain open and Id guess BB will try to address it before TC if he can and certainly before the start of the season unless someone of the youngsters makes a big step forward..

Signing Waddle for only one season is all makes drafting an OL in the first 50 much more likely. I could see us going as high as 15 (or more likely 25) for a player, if Belichick thinks that any of them are worthy.

I’m confused. How do the started back each other up? If one gets injured the other can’t play both sides. Am I missing something?

Lol at the suggestions that waddle and flemming were hot free agents that were going to get 6-10 mill per year. They got jag money.

I would expect Cannon to slide to LT/RT in the event of injury or Waddle to do the same in the event of an injury to Cannon. It just depends on where each guy starts the season.

Yup, you were right; the media was very wrong.

Wow that is cheap, i guess its fair considering the injury risk. If he stays healthy thats a steal.

I don't know. Most mockers are now having Pats pick OT with their first choice. Id actually be surprised. Dante is certainly scouting OL prospects so they'll be ready . but how high they grade them and how much higher than the ones they have already - Garcia, Croston, Jelks - is another question.

Id guess BB would much rather bring in a solid veteran tackle and not another rookie with regards to the season at hand. Since FA didn't offer much Im sure he would be interested in trade. The question is what could be available. We saw with Glenn that teams are willing to move almost any player for a good deal including solid vet tackle. It is going to be expensive but Id much rather give a 1st for a solid vet on a deal NE can afford than draft a tackle again - IF any of Garcia, Jelks, Croston can be the future. Unfortunately we couldn't have any insight on the first two so it remains a big IF.
