I don't think it was an either/or proposition. I think that the Pats were perfectly willing to pay Butler AND Gilmore. And when Butler decided that the Pats offer wasn't good enough, the Pats decided to move on at that moment..

If Butler had said yes, you think the Pats would have moved on Gilmore? I'm guessing this was what they had offered Butler BEFORE going and getting Gilmore. I could be wrong on that.

Honestly, given that Butler didn't play in the SB as what was apparently some combination of gameplan/sickness/discipline I think it's highly feasible they didn't like something in his game and would have gone after Gilmore regardless.

Titans have an interesting team, I’d feel a lot better at them with a more experienced or seasoned coach. I think it’s way too early to give Vrabes a HC job. Probably fired within a few seasons to be honest. I think he’ll be a very good one down the road but he doesn’t have much experience.
