Ok, I’m gonna make a prediction that would not shock me if it happens, in fact, I’m gonna make 2 predictions in order of what I think could happen.

1) Trade the pick for more picks (most likely a 2 and a 3 for pick #31). I could definitely see BB trading down for extra picks, and then doing this all the way through the draft. Pats have the least amount of picks, I think he corrects that. It always seems like a Belichickian thing to do. Unless the #1 guy left on his list is still there, I think we can sleep through the 1st night of the draft and get ready for Friday’s 2nd and 3rd rounds.

2) Though we will all be disappointed if #1 happens, I think we always seem to come away disappointed with the draft most of the time. In fact I think the least Belichickian thing was the Jones and Hightower 1st round in 2012. That had Pat’s fans drooling, and they became key players in the 2014 Championship run.

I have a feeling about this draft, that IF Belichick keeps the pick, one name keeps coming up, and I really think it’s gonna happen. That player is safety Justin Reid from Stanford.

He just checks off all the boxes Belichick likes. Size: 6’1” 205, Speed: Ran a 4.40 at the combine with a 6.65 3 cone. 36.5 vertical. Plus extremely smart. I know a lot of you will be down on this because of the horrific safety we drafted from Stanford a few years ago. But the only similarity with Reid was, he is very smart. Doesn’t have the explosiveness or even size of Reid.

I just have a feeling Reid is the guy (if we keep the pick).

What’s your prediction for the 1st round of 2018 for the Pats.

Normally I'm a bit out in left field compared with most predictions, but I think you nailed these ones. I am almost certain we trade down. And, like you, I'm really coming around on Reid as a perfect fit here. I'll have a better feel for predictions once I'm done with more film review, though.

Reid seems like the prototypical Patriot and would instantly upgrade Richards' spot. He's as smart as Richards, but is actually athletic. I'd say a trade back and then Lorenzo Carter as of right now, but that opinion can obviously change a million times over between now and draft day.

Trade out of the first. Nothing is surer. Then, with our first pick in the second round, a consensus fifth rounder.

I think they'll be trading down, unless someone unexpectedly slips, in which case they'll go up. I'd be very surprised if they pick there at 31.

I won’t be at all surprised if we end up with both Sam Hubbard and Justin Reid, whether that comes from a trade back or not. This Lorenzo Carter interests me - I need to watch him.

Kolton Miller could be in play.

Not-so-fun fact: every OT the Pats had under contract in 2017 ended the season as a pending FA or on IR/NFI.

a) a QB for that fifth year option
b) someone who unexpectedly fell
c) trade back to maximize day 2 selections

Hoping for C because I dont see a QB at the end of the first round who is worth it. But from everything I have seen so far if someone like LVE slips there is no way I would say no..

I think you’ll like him. He’s a bit raw, but would be a good fit IMO.

With both vea and Evans expected off the board by 31, I see bb trading out of round 1.

With our first pick in the second round, I think bb upgrades the defensive front seven by selecting Hubbard.

I agree. I think there’s a bunching of similar talent at the back end of the first.

Unless Landry, or Evans or someone falls massively i can see us trading out of the first round. Ideally a Late second and probs a fourth. Not sure how the value works, off the top of my head.

The only scenario in which I could see a trade up is if Vander Esch is still sitting on the board at pick 26 or 27. Otherwise, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them trade down.

With Solder gone, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Pats trade up into the 20s for an OT. Not saying it's a guarantee or anything, but it is possible.

The thought of drafting a Stanford safety in rounds 1-2 traumatizes me.

I hear you on that one. :D Reid is a different breed, though. He's actually athletic and has some pretty good tape. They just happened to be from the same school. . . .
