Take "in the running" stories with a big pinch of salt. Mostly done to get the actual teams interested to up their offer. Patriots are likely mentioned in at least 65% of trade talks nowadays.

Not saying Pats weren't but if they were it was a player for a player or their '18, 6th round pick a 'late round '19 pick or a combination of the,. They don't have a 5th and clearly they didn't offer a 4th or Bennett would be a Pats player.

And honestly I wouldn't give up a 4th this year for him. Decent size cap-hit and attitude issues. Would rather keep pick for potentially moving up from one of the first 3 picks.

Unless he refused to play (essentially forcing himself to retire and lose out on 30+ million to Finnish his career) in NE if traded, I highly doubt the Seahawks took the 5th & 7th over a 3rd and 5th, especially considering they traded within conference to what can be considered their biggest rival in 2018. Im not buying it.

They dont have the cap space.. they are over by 15m right now and will need to purge their roster of some big name players just to get under, and then restructure a lot of salaries to sign anyone in free agents and fit their draft picks under the cap

With every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.. we'll be seeing the latter fairly soon

It was stated unclearly, but I think the deal was supposed to be read as, the Pats trade a 3rd for (Bennett + a 5th). The Eagles traded a 5th for (Bennett + a 7th).
