Gronkowski, Patriots Story Takes a Bad Turn, It is Decision Time

Steve Balestrieri

there needs to be a sit-down with the veteran leaders of the team with the coaches and ownership and clear whatever bad air is still lingering over a tense atmosphere in Gillette last season.

That tense air led us to the Super Bowl this year, and last year, and the year before the year before that, and the year before the year before the year before... you get the point.

Huh? I don't think this is a bad turn at all. I was expecting to hear some gruesome details about his injuries and how they are the focal point of his decision. If it's about the team chemistry, financials, etc, I think they'll work it out.

This smells like the same when he was hurt in 2016 and dint want to take trainer's opinion . His family was taking over on how he wants to be treated .

I suspect he'll be back for another year, at least. Give him time to relax, heal up and get ready for another season.

Yo Soy Fiesta!

Also, I am sure that there are already contingency plans in place for dealing with Gronkowski's retirement, or Bennett, Allen, etc. New England doesn't wait around for these things to happen. They plan for them ahead of time. It's why there's fewer problems when a key player leaves or gets hurt.

There weren't contingency plans for Ninkovich's retirement, so why should we believe that there are similar plans for Gronk's?

If Gronk is already thinking about retirement (which I think he is) but is playing the card right now to get a better contract then the Patriots should sign him to a deal and then trade him. Gronk couldn't stay on the field when he loved playing football, how will things go from here on out?? This team needs to move on in more ways than one.
Gronkie isn't sure he wants to play?? Manchild is not having fun?? See ya.......

I think Belichick is going to trade him. I don’t like the idea of it, but if it is going to happen then I would move him to SF for their 1st. It’s a top 10 pick and they could either get a great prospect or the flexibility to move around and fill major needs.

I hate the idea of losing Gronk, however I think he only has 1-2 years left in Foxborough, so if they can get a top 10 pick out of it I would make the move.

I doubt the 49ers are giving up a first round pick for an oft-injured TE that is openly talking about retiring.

That depends upon whether the talk is because he’s unhappy in NE. Gronk is the best TE in football and SF could see the opportunity to hand him to Garrapolo and seriously upgrade his chances for success.

Will it happen, I doubt it,!but it still makes the most sense to me if they are going to try and move him.

Yeah If we were crazy enough to dangle Gronk to SF, I would hope we would be getting kittle back plus picks as part of the return.

Hopefully he stops this stuff and says plainly what he’s going to do

Gronkowski's salary was increased by a couple million this year but he had
to reach certain milestones. His suspension would have caused him to miss
out but making 1'st team All-Pro restored the money.
He's probablyupset his contract contained the milestones. Other years he could
sit out if he had a minor injury.
