I was a little nervous about this one, but it sounds like he is returning, which leads me to believe it's his last year.

Even though the SB loss sucks, I still say there will be an air of "unfinished business" going on next year, as the carrot, and the idea that the "dynasty Part 2" for these players is still there.

I see a lot of gloom and doom here, but I see opportunity instead. The coaching staff losses could have been way, way worse.

I don't expect much a drop off the usual 12-4+ record we see every year.

where is the link to the story that says he's returning?

I sincerely hope they do a better job of grooming his successor this time around, but it’s good to have him back in the fold.

If we go into the future with McDaniels head coach Shupulski oc and Young scar as o line coach that's a good base for the offense.

I’d like to see a higher round OT taken this year, although they may defy my wishes and address it with 2 mid-late round picks, instead. I suppose what happens in FA with Solder/Fleming/Waddle will have a lot to do with it.

Googs gets a bad rap. Any coach whose line is able to help us win that 2014 SB isn't a complete dumpster fire. I'm not sure we should expect someone considerably better than him when Dante goes to the big training camp in the sky.

Consistency of coaching is a hallmark of the Pats and one of the many reasons for their success...

Scarnecchia and I are the same age, and find it hard to believe that he can power through another season in that very demanding job, a testament to his dedication to football and most of all the Patriots..

I cannot imagine myself or anyone I know keeping up with the demands of that job at that age..

I don't think he does. The line collapsed the following season when Edelman and Lewis went out and they could not longer mask it with quick dump offs and throws. They didn't exactly go out of their way to retain his services again and brought Dante back instead. Hopefully, Dante's replacement is already on staff and is working closely with him.

I agree and disagree. I think Googs is an average OL coach, in that he can motivate guys to play well assuming they're already a talented bunch. I don't think he can elevate an average line to a good one, or shore up a subpar line the way Scar can.

Where I agree is that I'm not sure we can reasonably expect another Dante. No matter how well he grooms a replacement, there's going to be a dropoff at that coaching spot.

I think his manner which is sort of reflected in how he's always jumping from team to team, sort of proves he can coach, but also his approach is short lived.

I've said this for years, but with Scarnecchia, I have no issue promoting his candicacy for the NFL HOF.

When you see someone like Dungy go into the HOF and other very questionable candidates in recent years, when you look at Scar's resume, it's hands down the best of any OL coach in the history of the league.

The only two remotely close in the modern era are Joe Bugel and Hudson Houck (yes, no one really knows the Cowboys 1990s OL coach because the OL was so talented it wasn't really the coach), so it's high time this guy gets recognition and the NFL HOF lets in positional coaches if they are this legendary.

Oh Thank God

To honor Dante (and every other Patriot, ever) we should wear uniforms from his first season here

Yeah, I know, JMO

I dunno man, the minuteman hat just doesn't do it for me. ;)

Another year in Dante's university program should really help Croston and Karras (and even Waddle). That's great. I have less faith in those coming back from injuries.

My point would be Scar is so good he can make a patchwork line excel. Googs cannot, not for season after season. But we're spoiled and think that an OL coach who can't make L'Adrian Waddle a solid starter is garbage.

This doesn't make Googs bad it makes Scar awesome. Googs is the like, baseline for what we should expect in our sad post-Scar years.

Coach Scarnecchia does a superb job. I hope he is coaching or mentoring a (young) coach too not the players.
