I found out last night, but I still can't process it. I don't think there's been anyone in the Army that I truly loved more than this guy. I've never met a person that could better light up a room with a smile or a smart comment or a joke, or just by extending his help and care. I knew he had battled through some things, and he carried himself with confidence, even when it was tough.

One of the things I remember was sitting with him in our room one night and he stopped his music. I asked him what was up and he shushed me. The taps was playing, like it did every night at 9pm. After it was over, he said that sometimes he just wants to listen to it.

I can't believe they're going to play for you now, brother. RIP

EDIT - I don't even know why I'm posting all this...maybe it's because he should be remembered for so much more than how his life tragically ended.

Still, 22 veterans take their lives everyday, and we all miss the signs. Reach out to a vet if you know one and just check on them. It could make all the difference.

Sorry for your loss (and ours), RIP.

So sorry for your loss. Definitely thinking of you :(

Thank you. It really means a lot.

Terribly sorry for your loss @Nikolai. It’s such a shame to hear that 22 vets take their lives everyday. I hope that you can honor him with your memories, and that you start to feel a little better soon.

That just sucks. :(

R.I.P. brother.

Sorry for your loss, man. We're all here for you if you need anything.

Thank you to everyone here. I really appreciate it; it means a lot.

Unfortunately, of all of his closest friends in the Army, so far only three of us got clearance from our respective command teams to go to the funeral in Colorado. Man...

Sorry to hear :(. It’s crazy the amount of suicides that are happening.

Sorry for your loss Nikolai......Friends and brothers in arms are always hard to lose.....

RIP Patriot Friend....

So sorry for your loss, Nikolai and RIP to your good friend.

Thank you. It's crazy. I still tell stories all the time about all the silly **** we used to do, and I know many of our friends and his family have all kinds of stories. I suppose, in that way, he still lives on.

He'd be super stoked about the Celtics crazy run right now.
