Patriots Defensive game plan in the Super Bowl

Bill likes to match speed with speed. Richards is faster and more comfortable in space than Elandon Roberts. Unfortunately Richards isn't a capable big nickle or NFL football player for that matter.

Can someone explain to me what the coaches saw on film that made them think this would be a good idea?

lol

this game was nowhere near like kc game

no blown coverages like philly had most of the night

just old school straight up man coverage disadvantages based on which player was on whom

some millennial in a basement somewhere coming up with some cute, inaccurate analysis means nothing

who is this evan character?

It was big nickle base D, three safeties and two DBs. The first controversy was the two DBs: Gilmore and Rowe rather than Gilmore and Butler. The second controversy was never subbing in Butler when they went to regular nickle or dime.

Lazar is wrong though.
We did use this scheme which is a failure but Richards only played 16 snaps, many of them subbing for chung.
The 4 safety d was only used in a handful of plays not as a base as it was vs kc.

They thought giving up long drives, lots of yards and lots of points like against KC was a good idea for some reason

Worst defensive game plan in super bowl history

4 safety defense , Eagles never punted once all game

5 minutes before kickoff have your starting box SS play slot corner, slot guy play outside CB, your FS cover the TE, and field 2 guys who shouldn't even be in the NFL.

They thought they could win without touching or pressuring the other teams QB.

Blitzed on 45% of the snaps and brought pressure most of the time. You are attacking strategy and scheme for no reason when it was just individual matchups that were lost across the board.

Belichick's defensive game plan against the Giants is in the Hall of Fame.

This one won't be, unless it's rolled up for use in the men's washroom.

Koppen made a funny (but probably correct) point on the Ex-Pats podcast that Bademosi and Richards should have "taken one for the team" and "pulled a hammy" or something in warmups.

Yes.
The iggles punted once.
5 minutes? Ha, it was at least an hour

DMac, Harmon and the captains confirmed that they knew ahead. But keep on telling that story. You are no different than those people still talking about Pats filming practices.

It was essentially the same strategy they have been using right along and in previous games, the defense would get better over the course of the game and make a stop at the end. The Eagles were the better team especially in the OL vs Pats D line. Sometimes the other team is better or just plays better. We always need to blame someone for our failures when sometimes its just someone else's success.
While I accept that Belichick is not perfect, he is a lot closer than anyone else. Pass the Kool Aid!
