JOSH IS STAYING!!

Brady proved against Jacksonville and Philadelphia that Tom Brady would make the best coach of this team. When he took over in the hurry up, things happened. Josh is a great coach, but Brady is the real genius and difference maker here. And Belichick, the defensive guru, managed alongside Matty P. to allow 41. For a while I thought this recent dynasty (2014-) was about Belichick, but at this point it seems to have more to do with Tom Brady and Josh McDaniels. Let's let an outsider coach this defense with a new scheme and see how we do. That will tell us a lot about Belichick's impact or lack thereof as a head coach on the defensive side of the ball. In all honesty, I think Belichick is still a mastermind. But he has too much to do with the GM work and head coaching. He needs to scale back as he enters his twilight years.
I’m beginning to think of Belichick as a “Witness”

Colts feelings right now...

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports there are still doctors who have concerns about Andrew Luck's shoulder and whether he may require additional surgery.
when did he report this?

And leaving a bunch of guys stuck in a job that you bailed on doesn't seem like he's matured.

He's radioactive to 31 teams now.

Realizing that the comfort of his family is more important than making more money or having a more flashy job title sounds like a mature decision to me.

Blame the NFL for requiring the Pats season to be over before he can sign a contract and the Colts for hiring those people before they have Josh legally signed for those guys being stuck.

Fair enough on your last point, but you have to agree that had we won the Superbowl (with or without Butler), no one would be talking about the number of points our defense surrendered. It would have been all about the GOAT and this team as a dynasty.

Sure. And Matt P would be sending Tom Brady a thoughtful gift of some sort for pulling his ass out of the fire before he heads for Detroit (couldn't impress him with an expensive gift... although I guess he'd make it expensive too. Coach-expensive, not QB-expensive.)

This really does line Josh up to be next-in-line for a couple of reasons:

1. The team made a "commitment" to him, which sounds like they are going to pay him to wait.

2. He said he was concerned about uprooting his family, but he's still going to have his kids over the next few years so that concern will last longer than BB will be around, and

3. I don't think another team will seriously give him a shot to be their HC after watching him string along two teams the past few off-seasons.

The Colts are screwed now, having let all the other top candidates sign elsewhere. And all those new coaches have hired all the top assistants too so even if they could get a top-notch coach, he would be at a serious disadvantage to begin with.

So I don't think another team is going to let him do that to them. They will not take him seriously, seeing how deep his roots are in New England. Josh probably knew that if he turned down the Colts, he'd have very few options in the future, and must have had some type of assurance from Robert AND Jonathan since we don't know when Robert will go.

Putting it all together and I think Josh will wait now, and if BB was serious about not coaching into his 70s, puts that at around 5 years and ticking.

Ideally they keep the Tom/Bill/Josh band together until Tom retires, and add an aggressive new D coordinator, and I don't see how we don't return to a couple more Super Bowls.

Absolultey. That's why I believe Brady had something to do with Josh staying.
There might be something to this.

Josh is the frosting between two vanilla Oreos

I have not read past the first page. Should I be happy?? I’m confused..is Bill leaving?? Really don’t know how to feel about this..

pissing myself over the mcdaniels banner photoshopping...lol!!!

It’s the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of the human race. I’m literally dancing and don’t know how

Seriously stop ruining this thread with this SB/Butler ********. There is a 2000 page Megathread for that. Let people enjoy Josh screwing the Colts for a bit without all that drama..

lol!!!

So... he's fine then?

This makes me very happy tonight. it's like a win after the loss Sunday. Eff the Colts, they started the whole deflategate mess.

I just recapped the whole "i resign as HC of the NYJ's" for my 19 yr old son, who hasn't seen The Two Bills yet. I think it's great theater. Brilliant.

As my signature says, The North Remembers.

Totally agree. The Colts were the sole architect of "Deflategate" and if they're screwed, it couldn't have happened to a nicer team.

"And unlike Giselle, I can scream and tell him to GFY without him getting bent out of shape... " :p

Who could have possibly 'disagreed' with my post above?!?! Tommy, is that you?!?! You're on the board, reading our posts?!?!?

You keep writing about an aggressive D coordinator. You do realize that this is Belichicks defense, right ? It has always been his. He gives the big picture marching orders and the coordinators execute them. Philosophically nothing will change with how the defense will play no matter if it is Schiano or Flores who gets the DC job.

The Indianapolis Colts remind me of the Melon Patch Kids:

"They're not orphans, they're abandoned...."
