Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

You totally lost me, dude. I don’t follow at all.

You’re saying you want to try and control Belichick’s drafting and pre-season roster building strategy by bringing in a GM? A GM isn’t his “boss.” He wouldn’t have had anything to do with the decision to bench Malcolm Butler. As long as BB is here, it’s his team. I don’t think anyone would dispute that. It’s one of the main reasons why he continues to coach.

If you’re claiming that you want BB to be run out of town, you should just find another forum to post on, because I doubt that anyone here will agree with that nonsense. That’s just silly talk. You can’t be serious.
its cool dude I'm venting..

switching in Colt Troll mode.. ttl

They did see Butler in practice and didn't like what they saw.

The team does not name starters until later in the week.

Is it the practice of the team to not tell players they will be sitting on the bench until the day of the game or shortly before kickoff? because if it is it's news to me.

That decision is defensible, I suppose.

What seems indefensible to me is leaving him on the bench the entire game while the players replacing him get taken to the woodshed. Or watching the entire second half when all the defense needed was a stop and deciding, nah, these guys who are embarrassing the living **** out of our defense are a better option than the guy who made one of the most clutch plays in team history.

Butler was not as good this year as he should have been. But someone like Richards was nothing but a liability pretty much every time he saw the field.

And now there’s the real question of how this decision affects team chemistry. Not beneficial, if I had to speculate.

Normally I’m inclined toward in BB we trust but this one is hard to take.
Pretty much my feeling. Butler is a better play maker than anyone on our defense. There was simply no excuse for Bademosi to be in that game. Remember the crucial missed tackle by Bademosi? Malcolm Butler makes that play. And yes, I know it doesn't mean Butler would have been involve on that specific play but the point is Butler is simply the more experienced, superior player to every other corner except Gilmore.

If our new defensive coordinator can finally get us that lights-out defense, I think we should be back in a good position next season.

Tom Brady: “Love you Malcolm. You are always an incredible player and teammate and friend. Always!!!!!!”

I don’t have a problem with that at all. You can love your teammates even though they have to issues with the coaching staff.

Butler was active, so the original plan must have been to have him available for any adjustments. Perhaps seeing Butler bawling his eyes out pregame about not starting made BB decide that he was not in a state of mind to go in, even as a backup.
This is not believable if you are doing what you always say you are doing, and that is putting your best players on the field that give you the best chance to win, particularly in the 2nd half. He wasn't bawling during Justin Timberlake, yet BB stuck with his losing plan that disrupted the whole defense then went on vacation. Inexcusable and a slap to the 52 other players on the roster who didn't deserve it.

The truth has to come out over this otherwise the 'In Bill We Trust' mantra will start to ring hollow.

If it was such a serious disciplinary issue then why was he even on the field? If it was not disciplinary that only leaves performance related concerns, but by the 2nd half it was clear things could not be any worse with Butler in there so why not take the chance with him. The best thing for the team reason sounds like BS to me. If it is not over a serious breach of conduct then it's just a major screw up by Bill in my opinion. Yes, Butler may have underperformed this year, but he still could have been the difference between just plain bad and historically bad and in the end a difference maker with just one key stop.

This is not like Lawyer Milloy, Jonas Gray, Jamie Collins etc, because in all of those situation there was a margin of error.

I don’t know if you noticed but there isn’t any “ in Bill we trust in New England” they lost Sunday, now it’s “ Belichick= Hitler”

What’s really inexcusable is the way many Patriot fans are sh.tting on a coach who has worked relentlessly to turn this into the best franchise in sports, simply because they don’t like a decision he made. It’s disgraceful in fact.

In all honesty it is my undeerstanding that the coaches formally tell the players when the come to the stadium on Sunday.

Did the procrastinate with Malcolm? Maybe?

Well.......maybe it’s because they didn’t like what they saw and aren’t willing to just blindly give anyone a pass

Bob Kraft saved the franchise and there are plenty who sh.t on him

NOBODY GETS A PASS

Like Rick Pitino called us.....we are the fellowship of the miserable

Sorry - he sh.t on me by making multiple decisions not only that I didn't like, but that made no sense, and made my team, who all worked relentlessly to get to the Super Bowl, lose the game. It's not disgraceful. It's venting, and justifiably so.

So now we are moving the goal posts from Butler being a pot smoking drunk philanderer who parties all night to taking a swing at Steve Belichick in practice and blowing up on him 30 minutes before game time resorting to Bill needing to protect his son and sit Butler the entire game.

Just lol

One person said that Ivan, but you keep repeating it.

Had Butler been in the game, it would have pretty much guaranteed at least one if not two Eagles drives ending in 3-and-out, which would have been enough to give us the win, given the fact they scocred on every possession sans one.

Sorry, but it's not like Butler is going to release a statement saying "yeah I got faded and told BB if he doesn't like it to suck Deez nuts".

Take everything from both sides with a grain of salt.

Brady ain’t liking that post if it wasn’t true and I’m pretty sure his teammates would know about the curfew nonsense

Wow! What a great thread. I'm glad that I'm retired and had enough time to read so much of it.

I have to commend @robertweathers for the way he represented his opinion here, in spite of much criticism.

I'm still not buying the idea that BB decided to bench Butler based on performance.

At some point I'll have to start another thread about BB's biggest mistakes. This one will be right up there but it won't be #1 on my list.

This loss was a very tough pill to swallow and the fans deserve a real explanation, in spite of what the nut huggers, as @patsfan13 playfully called them, may think. We do pay the freight after all.

Without knowing the facts it looks like BB let his ego get in the way of #12 getting #6. Too bad but I won't be losing any sleep over it. I've been able to see my football team go to 10 SB's and win 5 of them. I can live with that.
