Huge mistake to not play Malcolm Butler

- Based on the rumor reasons sounds like he didn't do anything egregious. He was sick, practiced not great, probably broke a curfew.
- Main thing was the coaches were in love with a crappy 4 safety defensive plan

The WORST part of it is not adjusting at halftime and playing Butler more. Instead they stuck to the same horrible defensive game plan that couldn't stop any drive

Malcolm Butler playing that 4th quarter helps the team preserve a 33-32 lead.

Red Auerbach never won a championship without Bill Russell.

Red Auerbach was a JAG coach.

Wha?

Celtics record prior to Russell

56- Lost East Semifinals
55- Lost East Finals
54- Lost East Finals
53- Lost East Finals
52- Lost East Semifinals
51- Lost East Semifinals
51- Lost East Semifinals

In 49 they won 22 games. Hired Red in 50. Won 17 more games and made it to the East Semifinals.

Oh.... he didn't want to cause a circus....

You had a star CB who the whole world knows a Super Bowl hero crying his eyes out during the national anthem. You have the player covering for him saying he just found out right before the national anthem that he was starting. You have a former player saying the locker room was divided on instagram and you have current (a defensive star at that) and former players liking that post. All anybody is talking about in the media is that Butler was benched and nobody knows why. You have the media hounding the team and getting weird evasive answers. You have players deflecting and looking pissed off. And this is going to follow Belichick around the rest of his career.

Some job avoiding a circus. Way to punish the whole team to make a point to one player.

Umm, but why was Butler being a distraction? The crying is disturbing. He was apparently sick, coud barely practice or practice well and you ain't making the club from the tub, as Parcells used to say.

Can't practice, can't play.

My sister in law had the flu and she was bed ridden for a week. Butler snapped back to health with a guarantee to play on Monday, missed the team flight, another flight and then shows up on gameplan day on Wed?

If this is remotely true, similar to his 2015 missed flights incidents, then I 100% side with BB's decisions.

If he was sick, they should have chartered him a private jet on Monday, quarantined him and IV'd him when he got to Minny in a quarantined area to keep him from infecting the other players.

This flu business sounds made up to me.

He missed 2 flights, the entire team meeting on Sat, and I am questioning his "flu" in the first place.

How many people you know have the flu on Monday, stay home on Tuesday due to said flu, and then withing 48 hours, are wandering around a city past 10 PM at night, while smoking dope AFTER curfew?

I am as liberal as they come, smoke some weed here and there, and think it should be legalized.

BB doesn't care about the dope. He cares about commitment to the TEAM.

Butler made ALL of these choices, including his outlandish contract demands, making him virtually untradeable.

Great let’s start using fake news to make arguments.

 And here are the Krafts directly contradicting you:

Following the Jimmy trade:

"Tom Brady will decide when he's done playing quarterback for the New England Patriots.

That's according to team owner Robert Kraft and his son, Jonathan, who serves as the president of the organization.

Appearing on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football," Jonathan Kraft said, "I think Tom Brady's earned the right to have that be a decision he makes when wants to make it."

"Our intent is we have the best people in their respective positions, and we keep them here for a very long time," Robert added." -masslive.com

In other words, it's not Bill's decision when Tom will leave. It's all Tom's. It doesn't matter that Bill wanted Jimmy to be his quarterback of the future, because the Krafts decided Tom's wishes were more important than Bill's. Pretty unprecedented thing to go over your coach's head and declare that one of his player's is more important than he, the coach, is and that that player will have the autonomy to make his own decision about his career without the coach's decisions factoring in. Could there possibly be any clearer and more stunningly direct indication of who Kraft thinks is the most valuable person in his organization?

Pure conjecture on your part. Where is the link proving any dope ?

The key question which makes zero sense in your worldview is why did they have him go through pre game warmup with starters then pull him minutes before the national anthem? You don't think they would have changed the lineup earlier? You don't think it would have made sense to tell Rowe, Chung, Gilmore earlier ??

Complete horsesh:t. Show any proof of any of those claims. In fact all 3 claimed they never happened.

I didn’t realize I was arguing with ESPN, no point in doing that.

See Kraft's direct words above, kay? :)

I’m convinced that that is what happened. I can’t prove it but ex team mates can be considered an authority on this situation. The thing they are saying is weed and women in the hotel. If that don’t get you benched then there’s no rules

Please show me the quotes that say belichick was forced to trade garoppolo.
Kraft jr making that comment in an interview has nothing to do with belichicks authority.

Kraft jr probably got that statement from belichick.

Yes, coaches always LOVE it when owners publicly take their power away. I'm sure that was allllll Bill's idea: "You know what would be fun? You should publicly declare Tom gets to call his own shots regardless of what I say!"

Why was he crying? Why did he miss flights, meetings, curfews, and who smokes weed and parties, 24 hours after recovering from the flu? Who rejects 8 mil per after being coached up as an UDFA?

Why was he blowing coverages earlier in the year?

Hmm?

Get to the source. If he mad him Inactive, and Bademosi, Gilmore or Rowe got hurt, you'd be stringing uup BB like Mazz on cocaine.

Butler couldn't have done worse, so it's with 100% accuracy it would have been better

Butler could very well have done worse. Unless you can see the future, you have no idea how good or bad he would have played. Just like I don't. As luuked pointed out, Butler had issues in the 2nd half of the season..

Yet as starting CB playing 98% of snaps, they had the league's best defense in points allowed from week5-17, where their front7 was terrible and Butler was a huge part of a strong secondary

So he did it right before kickoff leaving his defense in a 'wtf' state of confusion and missing one of their top players moments before the game. Yeah that's much better.

You are assuming they were in a state of confusion and the score does not prove that.

It was Welker.

Yes. You can blame BB for enforcing team rules.

More blame should put on Malcolm for completely f-ing up his career and screwing over his teammates as the other 51 did just fine
Sounds like the players would disagree with you. They more appear to believe Belichick screwed them over, not Malcolm.

As long as they perform on the field they can disagree with me or Bill all they want.
