Because everyone (including NE) passed over him 198 times. And because he was only on NE because BB was willing to see enough in him to keep 4 QBs on the roster, which is close to unheard of.What makes you think that? He won 20 of his 25 games at Michigan despite not even being given starting reps in practice. And then of course everybody knows his record here. Bill's the one who wasn't winning without Brady; whereas Brady's amassing an 84% winning record without Bill.
If NE doesn't pull the trigger he is likely a UDFA, ending up at the bottom of the roster somewhere. And many teams do not follow a "best person plays" doctrine. There's a reason why the agents for UDFA after UDFA tell their clients to go with NE if NE calls because the agents know NE will give UDFAs a fair shot.
Look at all the QBs who were good over the years, even better than Brady in college, who went nowhere because no one was willing to give them a chance other than being clipboard fodder and wouldn't put any time in developing them.
If Brady had ended up in Cleveland in 2000 he'd have been out of the league years ago.
