Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

This is all just crazy with how delusional some of you are. Rowe got absolutely picked on. That's fact, not debate. No Butler meant shifting around the normal roles in the secondary, more snaps from 3rd and 4th stringers, who got exposed as 3rd and 4th stringers... It's a domino.

That was the worst defensive performance of BB playoff career. Worst. And were going to pretend that benching the starting corner couldn't have possibly had anything to do with that? Keep drinking the koolaid...

It's really not particularly logical to lay blame on the offense. The Eagles were top 5 in both yards and points allowed... The Patriots offense put up almost twice their average points allowed and doubled up their average yards allowed. They averaged 8.5 yards per play! Brady averaged over 10 yards per attempt! Come on now.

The eagles were poor defending rbs/tes and played no elite qbs all year and had a very easy schedule.

I had pointed this out all week, predicted cox would be taken out, jernigan a bust, their edge rushers predictably swing wide every time and the pats offense was a bad match up for their lbs and mediocre secondary. Our red zone offense was a failure all year in first halves.

The second half adjustments were great, but the fiddling in the first half continues to kill this team with sluggish starts.

I like the koolaid as much as the next homer but gotta call a spade a spade. Belichick blundered a championship away with the worst decision of his career.

So you think the brave, manly thing to do is to publicly embarrass they player by telling the world the reasons you felt he didn’t belong in the field?
Belichick is doing what he is supposed to do, and what he always done.
He couldn’t have humiliated him more than suiting him and then telling him before the game that he’s not playing, creating a situation where a guy that was an All Pro last year is crying his eyes out in front of 100 million people because he isn’t good enough but All World CB Johnson Bademosi is.

If Butler was inactive i could understand the code of silence but he was ready to play with his helmet on, and he didn’t either because he wasn’t good enough in Belichicks eyes or because he was punished...infront of the whole world.

And the “in case of injury” thing doesn’t make any sense under scrutiny. So let’s say Gilmore got injured on the first play, and then Butler plays the entire game...so his transgression couldn’t have been that bad if he could play the entire game under a particular circumstance, was it?

On the other hand if he was benched because the coaches actually believed he wasn’t the best option...and still didn’t make an adjustment during the second half where Philly scored on every drive...well there’s not much to say about it really.

What about philly’s d, the fake td by clement and awful gostkowski yet again? Sometimes games are shoootouts. This was one of them and our offense was as asleep out of the blocks in a super bowl again.

Why is it ok for brady and mcdaniels to be confused for an entire first half against a crap pass d?

Brady and this Offense just set all kinds of Superbowl and playoff records. Seriously? 33 points has always been enough to win the Superbowl... until yesterday.

Blaming the Butler decision is easy hanging fruit.

We lost because we could not pressure Foles and we could not counter their expertly effective jam routes.

Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely. No checks and balances within this organization. There is no one to tell BB he is cutting his nose to spite his face.
I will absolutely love someone like BB himself to come to this organization. I watched the 2 Bills and he has no one challenging him like he challenged Parcells.

Nice to see this quoted correctly. :)

Philly scored on 8/10 drives - should have been 9/10 if Jeffrey does not drop a ball into the air for an INT. The defense could not have been any worse.

Philly’s d was worse. They folded like a cheap suit and allowed the pats to go ahead, not to mention that clement td was not a td.

Philly won so no one gives a sh*t about their defensive performance.

Honestly? I think Belichick is that ridiculously stubborn that he would have inserted Bademosi to take all of Gilmore's snaps if the situation arose. Bill was going to avoid putting Butler in or limit his snaps as much as possible. Ridiculous.

And you are complaining about the results?
Not complaining about the results, I am pointing out that there are no checks and balances with BB. He needs a strong personalty on his team to provide positive feedback and a rare course correction. If he had those checks, he may well have won two more super bowls than he has.
Look, I have lived my life to be able to tell when certain actions are just bad omen. Like cutting a cut a day before Superbowl, you mess with the team.
This is a first world problem here. It is just a minor annoyance/rant. No other coach I will like to support though. He is brilliant, that fact is proven and settled.

60 min game.

We lost a shootout to nick foles because they attacked the end zone. We did not.

The d’s on both sides of course could have been better.

We put up 33 points, over 600 yards offense and that's even with the Eagles controlling the clock for 34 min and we lost our deep threat in Brandin Cooks. If our defense plays just ok, we put up 50. Did you watch the game?

Exactly. BB created all this drama. People who don't think this effected the psyche and play of the defense are insane. It was a really stupid move to handle it the way he did. It was so obvious by the way they played.

Laughable. He is constantly challenged by his underlings as shown in the documentaries and by all that have worked with him.

Are you mazz or felger?

How is this absolute power? Butler screwed up royally.

"Well I heard that Butler walked up to Bill and said, 'we settle my contract now before the game, I know how you do.' Bill told him to go away. Butler said he'd act up in the team meeting, Bill said fine, the meeting is cancelled, and all the players except you can ride the rides at Mall of America... and then and then..."

Yeah, and he may have lost five more.

Yes, philly’s offense was just as bad and got a free td. Did you?

Some people would rather blame Brady and McDaniels for not score a TD on every drive than admit that BB f*cked up and his vaunted defense was trash. It's sad.

I always defend BB. But, in this case he screwed up, what makes this even more baffling is that Butler was told this after warmups.
